Chapter 1 of "Tear the Gown, Crush the Groom"

Today is my wedding day. I woke up at five in the morning. My fingertips traced the lace edges of the wedding dress, the custom piece I'd waited six months for. Pearls were sewn along the hem, like stars scattered across the sea. The makeup artist arrived right at seven. As the foundation brush swept across my cheeks, I kept wondering what my fiance Brendan Romano's face would look like when he saw me—he always said I looked best in white. At ten-thirty, the bridesmaid suddenly screamed, "Where's the wedding dress? The closet's empty!" My heart sank. Barefoot, I ran to the dressing room. The wedding dress that had been hanging there was gone—only an empty hanger remained. At that moment, my cell phone rang. It was Brendan. As soon as I answered, I heard his urgent voice: "Eva, Mila's in trouble. She ran off wearing your wedding dress. She's by the river, crying, saying she's going to jump." My hand holding the cell phone trembled as I asked, "What about my wedding dress... our wedding?" Brendan cut me off, "Forget about the wedding for now! Mila's going crazy now—I have to go see her first." Before I could say another word, the call ended. I stood alone in the empty dressing room, sunlight pouring through the window, scattered on the floor like shards of glass. The bridesmaid handed me a coat and asked, "Miss Black, what should we do? The guests are almost here." I shook my head, unable to say a single word. Suddenly, a memory flashed through my mind from three months ago: that day in the house that Mila Marley, Brendan, and I rented together—the water pipe burst, and Mila "accidentally" spilled water on my computer. Just as I was about to speak, Brendan stepped in front of her and said, "Eva, she didn't mean to, so don't be so harsh." Mila lowered her head, twisting the corner of her shirt nervously, and said, "Eva, I'm sorry. How about I make it up to you with a new computer?" I saw the frown crease Brendan's brow and swallowed the rest of my words. And just last month, I found out I was pregnant. When I went to the hospital for a checkup, I suddenly had abdominal pain and bleeding. The doctor said I needed an immediate uterine clearance. I called Brendan, but he told me Mila had acute appendicitis and he had to stay at the hospital with her. He said, "Eva, you'll have to handle this on your own for now. Mila can't handle this by herself." Lying on the operating table, before the anesthesia took effect, I heard the nurse whisper, "Why didn't your boyfriend come? This is such a big deal." I kept my eyes closed, tears streaming down from the corners of my eyes. Looking back now, those so-called accidents were never accidents. Mila always said she had no family and she treated Brendan and me like family, but the way she looked at me hid something I couldn't understand. Brendan always said I was overthinking and that Mila was fragile and she needed care. It wasn't until today, when he chose to stay with Mila—the one who stole my wedding dress at my wedding, that I realized our three-person household was a twisted farce from the very start. I picked up my cell phone and sent a message to the MC: "The wedding is canceled." Then I walked over to the mirror, looked at the delicate makeup on my face, and wiped it off bit by bit, as if erasing all the hope I had placed in Brendan over the past two years.

When I brought Quentin Hill some soup, the moment I pushed the door open, Marianne Ray was grinning as she stuck a QR code on my forehead. I ripped off the paper—"Damaged goods on clearance." Blood boiled in my head like a buzzing storm. "Quentin!" I looked straight at my husband. He just frowned and wiped his hands. "Marianne was joking, why are you taking it so seriously?" That night, Marianne Ray posted the photo of me with the QR code on her social media, captioned: "Expired secondhand goods, who wants it?" Quentin Hill's comment was right under it, just two words: "No thanks." At that moment, I heard a string inside my mind snap with a sharp "pop." I picked up my phone and called the bank manager, my voice so steady it felt strange even to me: "Freeze all the supplementary cards I issued to Quentin Hill." Then I dialed another number and said on the other end, "Bring the...

Seven Years in Pain, a Lifetime in Vain

I stood at the entrance of the office building, clutching the dismissal notice, when a video from Melody suddenly popped up on my phone: "Bruce Lewis is getting married next week. You're welcome to witness this happiness." Seven years of restraint crumbled in an instant, and the old scar on my wrist felt hot—it was left there seven years ago. "Nora, Bruce stood up at the wedding!" A colleague's message had just appeared when a hand suddenly grabbed me. I turned around to see Bruce's bloodshot eyes. He was gasping for breath: "I've been looking for you for seven years." "Mr. Lewis, we don't know each other well." I wrenched myself free from his grip. "My mom forced you back then, and I had no idea!" He held out a bank card. "I'll make it up to you. Let's start over!" "Make it up to me?" I laughed until tears came. "With my mom's life? Or with these seven years...

The Arrow of Love

The moment I gripped the wooden bow at ten, I knew archery and Eddie would be the passions I'd never be able to let go of. Eddie was the legendary captain of the archery team, my first mentor, and my love. He once held my wrist and said, "Calm your heart, let the arrow follow your breath." To stand beside him, I trained for three months, forging thick calluses on my palms. But when the selection results came out, I was five points short. "Eddie, just this once, could you put in a good word for me with the Selection Team? I swear I'll give it my all from now on—I won't ever let you down!" But he pushed my hand away, his eyes cold as ice: "Cindy, no. Archery can't have shortcuts—if you are not good enough, you are simply not." I stared at his sharp profile, my heart pricking like it was being stabbed. I thought he was...

I was a celebrity with three Best Actress trophies in hand and a net worth of over 100 million. Ten years ago, on that sweltering summer afternoon, in a corner of the film set in Collywood City, there was a young extra named Jim in a faded costume. The light in his eyes was blazing bright. I revised scripts for him, found him mentors, and paved the way with my connections. I watched him rise from an unknown actor in web dramas to the very peak of A-list stardom, step by step. For our tenth anniversary, I booked the dressing room at the film and television base. I set out his favorite red wine and hid the gift I had been preparing for half a year, wanting to give him a surprise. "Jesse, did you 'mistake someone' again? Was it your secretary or your assistant this time?" He chuckled softly on the other end of the phone, "Honey, you know I have face blindness." "Face blindness?" I stared at the surveillance footage on the tablet showing him kissing a strange woman. "Then why have you never mistaken your ex, Leila?" His breath caught abruptly in the receiver. I walked to the window, looked down at his recently parked car, and whispered into the phone, "Jesse, it's time to end your act." "Guess how long you can keep pretending if I hand over proof of your 'selective face blindness' to the board?" There was a deathly silence over the phone for a moment, then his voice turned sharply cold: "Nora, what do you know?" I smiled. "Secrets enough to destroy you. Like..."收起
