Sacrificing My Soul for Atonement

2026-03-04

In the funeral home, the eerie green candlelight flickered. I struggled, but the servant held me down tightly. Shirley Hough held up a voice recorder, her voice sharp: "Listen, everyone! This is the proof that Tina Hough forced our parents into no man's land!" "That voice was doctored! You are framing me!" I shouted. She grabbed my hand, cold iron tongs clamping down on my fingernails. "Won't confess? Then don't blame me for being ruthless." "Ah—!" In excruciating pain, my fingernails were ripped out one by one. She leaned close and whispered in my ear, "Dear sister, this is only the beginning. I will make you confess with your own lips that you were the one who killed them."收起

Chapter 1 of "Sacrificing My Soul for Atonement"

Black satin hung from every corner of the Hough's old mansion. I stood at the entrance of the funeral home, my feet heavy as lead, unable to move an inch. This should have been the place to honor my adoptive parents, but now it had been transformed into a chilling vision of Hell. Ghostly green flames danced within the skull-shaped candlesticks, casting shifting shadows across the funeral character on the wall. Shirley Hough wore a blood-red dress as she emerged from the depths of the funeral home, a chilling smile twisting her lips. She brandished a voice recorder mockingly in front of me. "Tina, listen closely. This is the last voice our parents left me." Before I could react, muffled voices spilled from the recorder. The voices were distorted and indecipherable, but Shirley pointed at me and shouted fiercely at the arriving Hough family members. "It's her! It's Tina who forced our parents into the no man's land! Our parents resisted, but she threatened them!" I was stunned, my mouth opening to protest, only to have two servants seize my shoulders. "It's not me! I didn't do it!" I struggled desperately, but my voice was drowned out by Shirley's sobbing. "Look, she still dares to deny it!" Shirley snatched my hand and pressed my fingertips onto a cold iron tong. "Since you refuse to confess, let me show you what it feels like to lie." Before I could scream, a sharp, piercing pain shot through my fingertips. My nails were brutally torn off, blood dripping through the gaps in my fingers onto the white cloth of the funeral home. "Still won't tell the truth?" There wasn't a trace of warmth in Shirley's eyes. She waved her hand, and the servant dragged me over to a bed covered in iron nails. "Roll over. But I'll let you go if you tell the truth." I stared at those sharp iron nails, trembling all over. But how could I admit to something I never did? Disregarding my struggle, the servant suddenly shoved me onto the bed. The iron nails pierced through my clothes and into my skin; with every movement, it felt like countless knives were slicing through my flesh. Tears streamed down my face from the pain, but I gritted my teeth, refusing to utter a sound. "Shirley, spilling blood where spirits rest is an omen of evil!" I shouted with all my strength. But Shirley laughed even more gleefully, pulling a small knife from her pocket as she crouched beside me. "Omen of evil? So just show me." She seized my wrist and without a moment's hesitation, slashed down fiercely. Blood sprayed out instantly, splattering across the nearby candleholder. At that moment, all the lights in the funeral home suddenly went out. The ghostly green candle flames flickered and died, darkness engulfing us like a rising tide. A strange sound of wind whispered in my ears, mixed with intermittent crying, impossible to tell where it came from. I could sense something was drawing closer.

"Careful." A pair of hands steadied me. It was Victor Lancaster. Later, he sat in the shadows of the clubhouse and asked me, "What do you want?" "I want to be the best actress." He smiled, "I like your ambition." For five years, he lifted me to the peak, then pushed me down with his own hands. That day, the trending topics exploded. My private photos were all over the internet. I called him, my voice trembling, "Those were secretly taken!" But he sneered, "Melissa Jackson, what wouldn't you do for opportunities?" For nine years I knocked at the temple gate, and on the day I finally came down the mountain, I saw the Shaw Family's Residence bore a different name. The mundane world I fled nine years ago had long since turned on me and struck me down instead.收起

As I picked up the pearl earrings, Theodore was just opening the car door. "Whose are these?" My voice trembled. His eyes darted away. "Probably a client's." Three days later, I pulled a pair of black stockings from the car trunk, scented with an unfamiliar perfume. "Which client's are these now?" I threw the stockings down in front of him. His face went pale. Suddenly, he gripped my shoulder with frightening force. "Don't ask, Felicity." His voice was low, each word pressed through clenched teeth. "Some things are better left unknown." "Are you afraid I'll find out something?" I stared at him. "Shut up!" He snapped, his eyes terrifyingly red. "For our child's sake, and for your own, don't ask again."收起

I clutched the premarital medical report and dialed Melody's number right away. "This is the seventh time! What on earth are you trying to do by altering the report and posting it on Moments?" She sneered. "Nicole, you can't even stand this little test if you want to marry into the Lynn Family? I just let everyone laugh at you. Why are you taking it so seriously?" "Laugh at me?" I shot back. "Calling it a joke to humiliate me with a red stamp that says 'low-grade sow'? Melody, do you really think I'm that easy to bully?" The door opened, and Henry cut me off. "Nicole, Melody's just messing around. Let it go. It's beneath you to keep harping on it." I slammed the report down in front of him. "She insulted me, and you say it's beneath me? Henry, you're really biased!" He tightened his grip on my wrist. "The marriage alliance is a done deal, Nicole. Don't...
