A Decade of Silent Love

I personally stamped the marriage certificate of my foster brother, the one I've secretly loved for ten years, and his bride. He sneered, "Marrying anyone is better than you." I held back my tears, wished them well, and walked away. Until he uncovered the truth about why I was forced to leave all those years ago, and the proof that his bride swapped keepsakes and framed me. He begged for forgiveness, but by then I'd already got an offer from a top Music Academy. This time, it's my turn to turn my back and step into a future without him.收起

Chapter 1 of "A Decade of Silent Love"

My name is Rachel Stafford, and I'm twenty-eight. Right now, I'm sitting behind the counter at the Civil Affairs Bureau, my fingers clutching a red stamp. Standing across from me were Calvin Stafford and Mia Thompson; they were here to get their marriage certificate. Calvin Stafford is my foster brother. We had lived together for over ten years. Since I was eighteen, I'd secretly been in love with him. But I never dared to say a word. Mia wore a white dress, her face glowing with happiness as she clung tightly to Calvin's arm. Calvin's expression was calm, showing little emotion—only when he looked at Mia did his eyes soften a bit. My gaze shifted between the two of them before I looked down and picked up the marriage certificate. On the red booklet was a photo of them together, both beaming brightly in the picture. I took a deep breath, dipped the stamp into the ink pad, and gently pressed it onto the marriage certificate. The soft pop sound felt like a blow to my heart. After stamping it, I pushed the marriage certificate toward them, forcing a gentle smile. "Congratulations to both of you. Happy newlyweds." Mia Thompson smiled warmly and said, "Thank you," reaching out to take the marriage certificate. Calvin looked at me, his eyes completely cold, even tinged with a hint of disdain. He suddenly spoke, his voice low but clear enough for me to hear: "Rachel, you need to understand that whoever I marry is better than marrying you." His words were like an icy blade, stabbing straight through my heart. The smile on my face froze for a moment, my fingertips trembling slightly. But I quickly pulled myself together and stayed calm. "I know. I wish you happiness." They didn't say another word and turned to leave the Civil Affairs Bureau. Watching them walk away side by side, tears finally welled up in my eyes. I fought to hold back the tears and stayed by the window, processing paperwork for the next couple. It wasn't until the end-of-day bell rang that I packed up and left the Civil Affairs Bureau. Outside, the sky had already darkened, and the street lamps lit up one by one along the road. I didn't go home; instead, I took a taxi to the cemetery. Calvin Stafford's parents—my foster parents—are buried here. With a bouquet of white chrysanthemums in my hands, I slowly walked up to their tombstone. In the photo on the tombstone, they were smiling so gently. I knelt down, placed the white chrysanthemum in front of the tombstone, and whispered, "Dad, Mom, Calvin is getting married—the bride is Mia Thompson." After saying that, the tears finally started to fall. "I know you've always wanted him to be happy. Now that he's found someone he loves, I hope you can find some peace." "After the wedding, I'm going abroad to chase my own dreams." "All these years, I've lived revolving around him. Now it's time to live for myself." I sat by the tombstone for a long time, only getting up to leave the cemetery as the night grew darker.

I clutched the premarital medical report and dialed Melody's number right away. "This is the seventh time! What on earth are you trying to do by altering the report and posting it on Moments?" She sneered. "Nicole, you can't even stand this little test if you want to marry into the Lynn Family? I just let everyone laugh at you. Why are you taking it so seriously?" "Laugh at me?" I shot back. "Calling it a joke to humiliate me with a red stamp that says 'low-grade sow'? Melody, do you really think I'm that easy to bully?" The door opened, and Henry cut me off. "Nicole, Melody's just messing around. Let it go. It's beneath you to keep harping on it." I slammed the report down in front of him. "She insulted me, and you say it's beneath me? Henry, you're really biased!" He tightened his grip on my wrist. "The marriage alliance is a done deal, Nicole. Don't...

The Photo Album

As the morning mist, heavy with the dampness of pothos, seeped into my nostrils, the phone vibrated like a grenade about to detonate. The encrypted signal from the military district pierced the screen in an instant. I stared at the cold cup of tea on the bedside table — the tranquility of the third day of leave shattered more completely than the tea leaves at the bottom of the cup. Top-secret A-level files, departure within one hour. The icy shards in the phone call sank down my throat as I felt the hand reaching for my field uniform begin to burn. The words "Photo Album" exploded before my eyes in the encrypted message — this was no ordinary image. When my fingertips touched the metal clasp of the cipher box, I knew that some dormant weight was about to be awakened.收起

On a rainy night at the nail beauty shop, I ducked in to escape the rain for ten minutes, only to be forced by the owner to pay a "venue fee" priced at five thousand. She flaunted a diamond ring: "Mark Young gave me this."—That was exactly the wedding ring I tossed into the trash last week. I smiled and handed over my card: thirty thousand upfront to steady the nerves, three hundred thousand to follow. Ten minutes later, a bodyguard kicked the door open: "Young Lady, are you closing the shop?" They didn't know that I, Reagan Clark, came today to collect my husband's body.收起

"Mom, I actually want Aunt Luna to be my mom more." Oscar's words felt like a knife stabbing into my heart. I stumbled toward the study and heard Edward Greenspan's voice inside: "Luna, wait a little longer, I'll make you official." I pushed open the door; the walls were covered with photos of Luna Roger. Edward Greenspan was gently stroking her photo frame. "When Oscar is a bit older, I'll divorce Freya Roger." My voice trembled, "Why?" "You were unconscious for three years. Luna was the one who stayed with me." He turned away, his eyes calm. "I've fallen in love with her." "What about me? What about our ten years together?" He handed me a check. "I can give you anything—except love." I laughed through my tears, turning away with a heart already cold. During my last rehabilitation surgery, I lay on the operating table, but heard the nurse whisper in panic, "The chief surgeon was called away by...

Sarah Greenspan clutched my neck tightly, her eyes bloodshot: "You stole twenty years of my life! How dare you still be alive?" She leaned close to my ear, her voice like a venomous snake: "Do you know who sent those thugs?" A chill ran through me: "Do... do Mom and Dad know?" Sarah Greenspan said, "What do you think?" Suddenly letting go, she smiled sweetly yet cruelly: "By the way, do you want to know how Seth Hamilton will treat you at the engagement banquet?" Me: "What do you all want?" Sarah Greenspan: "You'll find out soon enough—after all, stolen things always come at a price, don't they?"
