My Marriage, My Say

2026-03-04

I clutched the premarital medical report and dialed Melody's number right away. "This is the seventh time! What on earth are you trying to do by altering the report and posting it on Moments?" She sneered. "Nicole, you can't even stand this little test if you want to marry into the Lynn Family? I just let everyone laugh at you. Why are you taking it so seriously?" "Laugh at me?" I shot back. "Calling it a joke to humiliate me with a red stamp that says 'low-grade sow'? Melody, do you really think I'm that easy to bully?" The door opened, and Henry cut me off. "Nicole, Melody's just messing around. Let it go. It's beneath you to keep harping on it." I slammed the report down in front of him. "She insulted me, and you say it's beneath me? Henry, you're really biased!" He tightened his grip on my wrist. "The marriage alliance is a done deal, Nicole. Don't push your luck. You have to put up with it!" I pulled my hand away. "Put up with it? Not anymore, starting today." Melody sneered on the other end of the line. "Not anymore? Nicole, do you really think you have the right to ruin this marriage alliance?"收起

Chapter 1 of "My Marriage, My Say"

Gripping the crumpled premarital medical report between my fingers, I fixed my gaze on the bright red seal in the bottom right corner, my stomach churning. The crooked words "low-grade sow" stabbed into my eyes like rusty needles. This is the seventh time. Every time I get the report, it's been messed with by Henry Lynn's so-called 'female friend' Melody Scott. My phone screen lights up, and at the top of my social feed is Melody's latest post. The picture she posted is my premarital medical report, captioned: "Henry's little darling, certified clean." The comment section had already exploded. "Haha, this seal is brilliant, Melody—you really know how to play." "Nicole Shaw passed Melody's test? So she's officially part of our circle now?" "Low-grade sow? That's a bit harsh, but honestly, kind of fitting." A flood of sarcastic remarks washed over me like dirty water, my fingers gripping the phone turning white. The door clicked open and Henry Lynn walked in, carrying a basket of strawberries I loved. "Nicole, did you get the report?" His tone was casual; his eyes skimmed over my pale face, not taking it seriously. I slammed the report down on the table with a 'pop', pointing at the bright red seal, "This must be Melody Scott again, right?" Henry Lynn glanced at the report, his face showing not a trace of emotion. "Melody's just messing around." He took my hand and handed me a strawberry. "She wants you to fit into our circle faster. This is a test." "A test?" I pulled my hand back sharply, my voice trembling. "The seventh test already? And it's this kind of insulting way?" "What insult?" Henry Lynn frowned, a trace of impatience in his tone, "We're all friends here, just kidding around." "Would a friend really stamp 'low-grade sow' on someone else's premarital medical report?" I stepped forward, locking eyes with him. "Would a friend send something like this around the social circle for everyone to mock? Henry Lynn, look me in the eye and tell me—is this a joke?" I was searching his eyes for even the slightest flicker of guilt. There was none. Absolutely nothing. Instead, he sighed, his tone laced with condescending generosity: "Nicole, why are you so petty? Melody already told me, once this is over, she'll accept you as my wife." "I don't need her approval." I spoke each word deliberately, every syllable squeezed out like it was caught between my teeth. Henry Lynn's face darkened instantly: "Nicole Shaw, don't be ungrateful. Our families' marriage alliance is just one step away, what are you making a fuss about?" Marriage alliance. Those two words were like a bucket of ice water poured over me from head to toe, snuffing out the last flicker of hope inside me. I gave a bitter smile: "Henry Lynn, do you really think there's any point in carrying on with a marriage like this?"

The Photo Album

As the morning mist, heavy with the dampness of pothos, seeped into my nostrils, the phone vibrated like a grenade about to detonate. The encrypted signal from the military district pierced the screen in an instant. I stared at the cold cup of tea on the bedside table — the tranquility of the third day of leave shattered more completely than the tea leaves at the bottom of the cup. Top-secret A-level files, departure within one hour. The icy shards in the phone call sank down my throat as I felt the hand reaching for my field uniform begin to burn. The words "Photo Album" exploded before my eyes in the encrypted message — this was no ordinary image. When my fingertips touched the metal clasp of the cipher box, I knew that some dormant weight was about to be awakened.收起

A Rainy Day at the Nail Beauty Shop

2026-03-04
On a rainy night at the nail beauty shop, I ducked in to escape the rain for ten minutes, only to be forced by the owner to pay a "venue fee" priced at five thousand. She flaunted a diamond ring: "Mark Young gave me this."—That was exactly the wedding ring I tossed into the trash last week. I smiled and handed over my card: thirty thousand upfront to steady the nerves, three hundred thousand to follow. Ten minutes later, a bodyguard kicked the door open: "Young Lady, are you closing the shop?" They didn't know that I, Reagan Clark, came today to collect my husband's body.收起

"Mom, I actually want Aunt Luna to be my mom more." Oscar's words felt like a knife stabbing into my heart. I stumbled toward the study and heard Edward Greenspan's voice inside: "Luna, wait a little longer, I'll make you official." I pushed open the door; the walls were covered with photos of Luna Roger. Edward Greenspan was gently stroking her photo frame. "When Oscar is a bit older, I'll divorce Freya Roger." My voice trembled, "Why?" "You were unconscious for three years. Luna was the one who stayed with me." He turned away, his eyes calm. "I've fallen in love with her." "What about me? What about our ten years together?" He handed me a check. "I can give you anything—except love." I laughed through my tears, turning away with a heart already cold. During my last rehabilitation surgery, I lay on the operating table, but heard the nurse whisper in panic, "The chief surgeon was called away by...

On the third night of gastric bleeding, I curled up on the hospital bed counting each drip—each one a countdown from Linda Carter. The conference room's air conditioning was blasting, yet it could not dispel the chill deep within my heart. Sarah Greenspan clutched my neck tightly, her eyes bloodshot: "You stole twenty years of my life! How dare you still be alive?" She leaned close to my ear, her voice like a venomous snake: "Do you know who sent those thugs?" A chill ran through me: "Do... do Mom and Dad know?" Sarah Greenspan said, "What do you think?" Suddenly letting go, she smiled sweetly yet cruelly: "By the way, do you want to know how Seth Hamilton will treat you at the engagement banquet?" Me: "What do you all want?" Sarah Greenspan: "You'll find out soon enough—after all, stolen things always come at a price, don't they?" It was on my eighteenth birthday that I discovered the truth. A photograph slipped from Charles Johnson's suit pocket—the yellowed paper bore the image of a young man standing before the orphanage gate with a girl who bore a striking resemblance to me. On the back of the photo was inscribed: "Found a substitute; the plan may begin." It turned out that the decade of carefully woven affection was nothing more than an attempt to recreate a long-lost first love.收起
