Lies, Debt and Unexpected Redemption

"Monica Kelly, your brother owes one million. It must be paid within three days! Otherwise..." Lying in the hospital bed, my left hand still wrapped in bandages, I listened to the threats over the phone, my fingernails digging into my palm. Suddenly, my phone vibrated—it was a message from Chip Johnson, my fiancé: "Monica, let's break up. Your brother's debt... my family can't accept it." Before I could reply, his next message came immediately: "Let's not contact each other anymore." The moment the screen went dark, the hospital room door was pushed open. A man in a suit entered, his shadow stretching long under the corridor lights. "Monica Kelly?" His voice was low. "I heard you need one million." I watched the stranger warily. "Who are you?"收起

Chapter 1 of "Lies, Debt and Unexpected Redemption"

The emergency room lights stayed on for a full seventeen hours. When I opened my eyes, the sharp scent of disinfectant stung my nostrils, and my left hand, wrapped in bandages, barely had the strength to move. The nurse handed me a phone; the screen was crowded with messages—all debt collection notices. One million. That number felt like a burning hot iron plate, scorching my heart unbearably. All of this was caused by my brother Toby Kelly. He ran a red light while drunk driving and hit three cars; he died at the scene. At least he's gone cleanly, leaving me—his half-alive sister—to carry the burden of his debts. I tried calling Chip Johnson, my fiancé; we were supposed to get married next month. A mechanical voice came through the phone: 'The user you have dialed has blocked you.' I was stunned for a moment, then reopened my phone—the red exclamation mark stabbed my eyes, making them sting. The ward was very quiet, filled only with the sound of my breathing and a dull ache in my chest. I stared at the cracks on the ceiling and suddenly laughed; as I laughed, tears began to fall. When a person is unlucky, even drinking cold water can get stuck in their teeth—this saying is absolutely true. "Monica Kelly?" A deep male voice sounded at the door. I turned my head and saw a man dressed in a black suit. He was tall and upright, with sharp facial features, and eyes so deep they seemed to hide an ocean. I didn't recognize him and frowned, asking, "Who are you?" "Matthew Stafford." He walked over to the bedside and handed me a cup of warm water. "Let me help you." I didn't take the cup and looked at him warily. "We don't know each other. Why are you helping me?" There's no such thing as a free lunch in this world—I've long known that. He pulled up a chair and sat down, speaking calmly. "I need a wife, and you need someone to help pay off your debt and take care of you." I was stunned, wondering if the pain from my injury was making me hallucinate. "I know you're going through a tough time right now," he continued, "If you marry me, I'll pay off your one million debt and cover all your future medical expenses." "What exactly are you after?" I still couldn't quite believe it. He looked me in the eyes with seriousness and said, "I'm after stability. My family is pressuring me to find the right person to marry, so we can support each other." He paused for a moment, then added, "I will take care of you for life, unlike Chip Johnson who abandoned you." Those words struck a vulnerable spot deep inside me. At that moment, I was like a drowning person clutching a lifeline—knowing it might not be secure, but I had no choice but to hold on tightly. A week later, when I finally held the marriage certificate in my hands, my fingertips trembled slightly. He put away his documents, helped me up, and said, "Don't worry, I'll always be here for you." I looked up at him; sunlight bathed his face, revealing his soft features. At that moment, I truly believed I had found a lifeline.

Henry Gordon knelt before me, his eyes red and swollen, clutching our son Ryan Gordon's medical record. Just because of this, I transformed from a white-collar worker into a wild survivor. For thirty days, drinking muddy water, eating roasted bugs, and surviving near-fatal fevers—I held on by picturing my son's pale face. It wasn't until I was hospitalized with a high fever that I overheard, right outside the ward, my "critically ill" son Ryan's voice. "Dad, won't Mom find out? I'm about to break under this act!" Henry Gordon sneered, "Relax. After one month of surviving in the wild, she'll be out of her mind." "Once we get the money, we'll immediately flee the country with Bailey!" So his company wasn't bankrupt, and my son wasn't sick—they just wanted to trade my life for their own freedom. My face drained of color in...

On the seventh day after my death, Frederick James' first love, Nancy Dash, who had been "dead" for three years, was resurrected. They wept tears of joy and embraced passionately. The assistant reported in a trembling voice: "The police have found traces of Miss Limbaugh..." He flicked the ash from his cigarette, sneering, "It must be the remains." At that moment, it was as if he were choking me again, his roar from three years ago ringing in my ears: "Why didn't you die instead!" At the police station, he stared at the jade bracelet in the photo of "my" corpse and suddenly erupted into a mad laugh: "You expect me to fall for this trick?" "Her life has nothing to do with me." In a shadowed corner where no one could see, Nancy Dash cuddled close to him, a cold, triumphant smirk playing on her lips: "That idiot Cindy Limbaugh—no one even claimed her body after she died."收起

The day my father nodded his approval to our marriage, I was filled with joy, eager to surprise Peter. But when I pushed the door open, I caught him cheating with Vivian. "Peter! Three years of companionship, and all the resources my family had poured into him—only to be met with betrayal. "We're done. I won't invest another penny in your company." Cornered, he resorted to desperation and sent masked men to kidnap me in the parking lot. In the abandoned warehouse, he grabbed my chin with a menacing glint in his eyes: "You've ruined everything for me! Now, if I hand you over to the investors, Vivian will be saved!" He forced me to drink the bitter, drugged liquid. Just as my consciousness began to fade, Kevin kicked the...

The Time-Space Diary

The iron chain bit into my wrists, sending a sharp pain up my arms. My father squatted on the threshold, smoking a cigarette. "For two thousand, I'll sell you to Bruce—then we'll have enough for your brother's betrothal gift," he said. "I won't marry him! Didn't you see him touching my arm?" I yelled, my throat growing hoarse. He kicked me hard. I fell to the ground. "How dare you rebel! I raised you just to trade you for money!" My mother tried to pull me up, but he shoved her away. "If you keep defending her, I'll beat you too!" That night, I felt around for that old diary. Suddenly, words appeared on its blank pages: "Take your mother and run." I went to find my mother. Her face was as pale as a sheet. "Don't talk nonsense—you must have imagined it," she said, but her hands were trembling violently. Grandma fell while trying to protect me. In front...
