You Killed Me, Then You Loved Me

2026-03-04

My marriage contract was a reckless gamble—betting three years of my youth, betting on a child, betting that he would spare me a glance. "Joseph, if I'm pregnant, would you stay with me a little longer?" I pressed close to his ear, my voice sickeningly sweet. He shoved me away, his gaze cold as ice: "Bella, stop dreaming." That day, I overheard his phone call with Jasmine. "She can't get pregnant." He chuckled lightly, like he was talking about the weather, "That accident... I arranged it." I leaned against the wall, my nails digging into my palm. "Why?" I heard my own trembling voice. He turned around, looked at me, his eyes completely unfeeling: "Because you're not worthy." Later, when I handed him the divorce papers, he signed without hesitation. Seven days later, I was supposed to fly far away, but at the last moment, I called him— "Joseph, if I told you I'm pregnant with your child, would you believe me?" There was only silence on the other end, and Jasmine's soft, delicate laughter. I closed my eyes; the wind was howling. "Joseph, you'll regret this."

Chapter 1 of "You Killed Me, Then You Loved Me"

My name is Bella Trump. The marriage contract with Joseph Jordan was made three years ago. It's clearly written in black and white: a three-year term, and if I bear no children, the marriage contract will automatically be terminated. The Jordan Family needs a nominal young mistress to uphold appearances, while my family urgently needs the Jordan Family's financial support. This deal was about mutual convenience, and love was the one thing excluded. I'm not ignorant of that. But hearts are made of flesh; day after day, facing that handsome, cold face, I inevitably fell for him. Besides, a child was the only bargaining chip I had to keep him by my side. From our wedding night on, I clung to him every night. I'd light calming incense in the bedroom beforehand, lean in to kiss the hollow of his throat, and awkwardly cater to every one of his preferences. Joseph Jordan was cold most of the time. He would either brush me off by saying he was busy with work or half-heartedly sit with me for a while before heading to the study. Occasionally, he indulged my need for closeness, but there was always a sense of distance. I told myself to take it slow, believing that eventually, there would be a chance. Day after day went by, but my lower abdomen remained completely still. I began to feel anxious and even secretly went to the hospital for a checkup. The doctor said my body was perfectly fine and that getting pregnant was only a matter of time, as long as I relaxed. Buoyed by the doctor's reassurance, I clung to Joseph more often. But his attitude grew colder and colder. That evening, I carried the stew to the study to find him. The study door was slightly ajar, and inside I heard his deep voice—it was a phone call. I instinctively stopped in my tracks and didn't push the door open. On the other end was a gentle female voice I recognized—Jasmine Frankfort, the first love he held dear in his heart. "Joseph, are you really going to let this go on between you and her?" Jasmine's voice held a trace of grievance. Joseph Jordan's tone softened instantly, completely different from the way he spoke to me. "Jasmine, don't worry, I never touched her." My heart sank sharply, and I almost dropped the bowl of soup in my hands. "What if she's pregnant?" Jasmine pressed, demanding an answer. Joseph sneered, his voice dripping with contempt and cruelty. "She can't get pregnant." "That car crash she had last time, I arranged it." "I made sure someone damaged her uterus so she'd never be able to have children again." Every word felt like an ice-cold blade, piercing straight through my heart. So it wasn't that I wasn't trying hard enough. It turns out it wasn't a matter of timing. From the very start, he cut off every hope I had. That car accident that kept me bedridden for half a month—I always thought it was just an accident, but I never imagined it was a scheme meticulously planned by him. I choked back the lump in my throat, gently set down the soup bowl, and slipped away silently. Back in the bedroom, I closed the door and finally collapsed to the floor, sobbing uncontrollably. Every ounce of passion, every hope, turned to ashes at that very moment. I decided to let go. Since his heart belongs to someone else, and he's so cruel to me, why should I keep humiliating myself? From that day on, I stopped clinging to Joseph Jordan. I no longer waited for him to come home for dinner, no longer crawled into his bed, and even deliberately avoided being alone with him. I locked myself in my room—either reading or staring off into space—so quiet I was practically invisible. Joseph seemed to sense the change in me. At dinner, he would instinctively glance at the empty seat, his eyes showing a faint, barely noticeable surprise. At night, when he came back to the bedroom and saw me curled up on the other side of the bed, his brows would knit ever so slightly. One time, he came over on his own and tried to hug me, but I instinctively turned away. I clearly saw a flicker of surprise cross his face, quickly covered up by coldness. But I could feel his discomfort. He was used to my active affection, used to my endless clinging; my sudden withdrawal left him at a loss.

I stood in front of the tightly closed door, my palms drenched in sweat. Today was supposed to be the day I proposed to Calvin for the 100th time. My heart was filled with anticipation. "Anna, what are you here for again?" Calvin leaned against the doorframe, his eyes cold and a look of impatience tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Calvin, this is the 100th time. You said you'd marry me once I'd done it a hundred times." He let out a soft chuckle, his eyes full of sarcasm. "Don't be so naive. Those were just jokes." My heart plummeted suddenly, as if falling into an abyss. "Why? I've changed so much for you..." "That's just your own self-indulgent devotion," he said. Just then, a news alert popped up on my phone—Calvin had made a high-profile confession to Quincy. I froze in place, tears gushing out of my eyes. "Calvin, have you had enough?"收起

The phone rang—it wasn't Ethan. I hadn't even had time to react when the door was kicked open. They covered my mouth and dragged me into the car. I was locked in an abandoned warehouse for over ten hours, without eating and drinking, until Ethan burst in with the police. He held me tightly, his hands trembling, his voice quivering: "Elizabeth, don't be afraid, I'm here." After the rescue, he was tender and attentive, until I realized I was pregnant. When I told him the good news, he paused in surprise, then smiled, placing his palm gently over my belly: "I will take good care of both of you." But later, he handed me a paternity test report, his expression darkened. "Look at this." The conclusion on the report struck like a heavy blow—the child was not biologically related to him. "Impossible!" I gripped his arm. "This must be a mistake!"

I was choking on the stench of the dirty Christmas stocking. When I yanked it out, Lucy was wearing my nightgown, with the limited-edition necklace bought with my parents' inheritance around her neck. "Alex Fisher, how dare she do this to me?" My voice was hoarse. "Lucy's just fooling around. Cut her some slack." He frowned. "Fooling around? Using my parents' money to buy a 'counterfeit' to curry favor with your mistress?" I pointed directly at the necklace. Lucy giggled coquettishly. "Alex has been fed up with you for ages. I'm his true love." "True love?" I stepped closer to him. "You tricked me into investing the inheritance to save the company, just to buy this crap?" He roared. "The money was for cash flow!" "Cash flow that requires a necklace and an haute couture priced at ten million?" I held up my phone. "I've got all the recordings and transfer receipts of you two." He raised his hand to...

The day my mother slipped into a coma again, I ran through the hospital corridors in my patient gown, heading straight for Uriel Chandler's office. As I climbed the stairs, my foot suddenly slipped—the scattered walnuts looked like a carefully laid trap. I fell, struck the ground, and a sharp pain exploded from my lower abdomen. Before losing consciousness as they lifted me onto the stretcher, I heard Uriel Chandler talking on the phone just around the corner. His voice was low, carrying a cold patience I had never heard before: "Don't worry, the switch in her mother's medication was done so covertly no one will detect it." "These walnuts will just cause her to lose the baby." On the other end of the phone, a syrupy voice purred, "Uriel, you're so good..." When I woke up again, Uriel Chandler was sitting by my bed, his right hand wrapped in thick gauze stained with blood. "Eileen, I'm sorry..." His voice...

Pushing open that slightly ajar door, all my sweet illusions froze in an instant. "Rose, once our children are born, we'll have both a son and a daughter—no more regrets." It was his voice. Through the crack of the door, I saw him half-kneeling, holding his brother's wife's pregnant belly with his hands. I leaned against the cold wall, barely keeping myself from collapsing. I fled like a runaway, cold wind choking my throat. Inside the car, I dialed a secret number. "Help me find Anthony Sterling and Rose Xavier. Money is enough." A few days later, I received a response. Staring at the photos and documents in the email, I slipped off my diamond ring. In the dressing table mirror, my face was as pale as paper.收起
