The Lipstick and the Lies

2026-03-04

That morning, I caught a cloying scent of perfume on the collar of her coat—neither one I had bought, nor a scent she had worn in the past three years. On the washbasin lay a freshly unwrapped, 'seductive red' lipstick, like a flag of provocation. She kissed me lightly goodbye as usual, saying she had a department dinner, seemingly forgetting that I am the true heir to L Group. That night, I unlocked her mobile phone. A pinned message from someone labeled 'AI' read, 'The dress you wore today is beautiful.' She replied, 'Too bad you can't touch it.'收起

Chapter 1 of "The Lipstick and the Lies"

In the mirror, my eyes were sunken, blue stubble creeping across my chin. Married for three years, Lydia Collins always carried a faint scent of gardenia soap. Whenever she hugged me from behind, that fragrance made me feel secure and at ease. This morning, as she turned to grab her coat, an unfamiliar perfume suddenly drifted into my nostrils. The scent was sweet and cloying, tinged with powdery notes—completely at odds with her usual understated style. On the bathroom sink lay a new lipstick, dazzlingly bright—a 'seductive red' shade—still unopened. She had never worn makeup before, always insisting that natural was best, even considering lipstick superfluous. "There's a department dinner tonight; I'll be home late." Her voice came through the security door, carrying a hint of haste. This was already the fifth "dinner" this month. She used to always come home on time, saying the outside food was heavy with oil and salt, and that she only liked the tomato scrambled eggs I made. It was one o'clock in the morning, yet the living room light was still on. I sat on the sofa, pressing the remote control repeatedly, but couldn't focus on anything. Her mobile phone flashed at the other end of the sofa. I walked over and unlocked it with my fingerprint — something we set up when we got married, agreeing to be honest with each other. The pinned chat box's avatar is an artificial human face. The latest message came from the other party: "The dress you wore today is beautiful." Her reply appeared immediately: "Too bad you can't touch it." My fingertips suddenly grew cold, the chill spreading through my limbs and spine. Scrolling up, the chat history seemed endless. Those explicit words wrapped around me like vines, tightening my throat. "I want to see you without your clothes on." "Next time, I'll send you a video." Each obscene phrase pierced my eyes with pain. I stepped back, my heart pounding wildly in my chest, the force striking my ribs with a sharp ache. The light from the mobile screen cast my distorted face—how could the woman I have loved for so many years become like this?

I hang up and keep demonstrating the "zero-cost purchase," while the bullet screen insults me as a cold-blooded monster. I once believed the rose tattoo on Draco Goodwin's chest was made for me. Three years by his side, a parade of actresses came and went—but I was the only one always there. I attended his social engagements, drank for him, slept in his master bedroom, and heard him mumble "Rose" indistinctly before sleep. Until Sandy Black arrived. She wore the emerald bracelet Draco Goodwin gave her and laughed softly as she entered the lounge I had used for two years. From outside the door came the sound of him making a phone call, tender yet painfully sharp— "Got it, Sandy." "Before we get married, I'll settle all my past lovers." The hand gripping the door handle was as cold as ice.收起

"What's the big deal about giving the pocket watch to Whitney, Daniel?" My sister Mindy's voice was tinged with impatience as she shielded Whitney behind her. "It's just an old watch—do you really want to ruin the engagement party over it?" Whitney's eyes were red, and she looked on the verge of tears. "Daniel, I just like it so much, that's all. I don't mean anything else. Please don't fight with Mindy..." "That's all?" I let out a cold laugh, pulled out my phone, and played the recording. Her calculating voice echoed through the Banquet Hall instantly: "Once I get the pocket watch, I'll stir up trouble to make them break up. Then the position of Mrs. Lewis will be mine!" Whitney's face turned deathly pale, but Mindy still refused to back down. "Even if she was wrong, you should have given in to her! If the Scott Family hold us accountable, can you take the responsibility?" "I can't take...

My son, Sawyer Evans, is in the emergency room being pumped—poisoned by my husband Frank Evans' mistress, Grace Lindsay. I kicked open her door; she was casually wearing a face mask. "You poisoned the milk?" My voice trembled. "So what if I did?" She pulled off the mask, smiling wickedly. I lost all control; the moment I plunged the fruit knife into her arm, Frank Evans burst in. "Ivy! Are you crazy?!" He shoved me aside and grabbed Grace Lindsay. "Yeah, I'm crazy." I wiped the blood from my face and looked him straight in the eye. "Frank, I want a divorce. I'm taking Sawyer with me." He looked like he'd just heard a joke. "Sawyer is my child; you have no right—" "He's not!" I cut him off, every word sharp as ice. "Sawyer is my son with Kingsley Flores! I stared at Amy's post on my phone, my fingertips cold — the mole on the man's inner wrist in the holding-hands photo was unmistakably Charles's. "Charles, who is this woman to you?" "She's just my assistant. Don't overthink it." He avoided my gaze. "An assistant who wears a custom pink diamond? A wedding ring engraved with her name?" I slammed my phone down. "Was it her who added macadamia nut powder to Nora's puree?" Charles's face paled instantly. "It was an accident!" "She knew Nora was allergic! You knew it too, but you covered for her!" My eyes red, I closed in on him. Amy burst in suddenly, waving a bracelet identical to mine. "Lisa, be smart and get a divorce. Charles loves me." "You murderer!" I lunged at her, only to be held back by Charles. "You're crazy! Amy's pregnant with my child!" He shielded her, his eyes icy cold. I looked at the two of them, laughing...
