My Stepsister's Fake Death

2026-03-04

Ben slammed his wine glass hard on the table, the wine splashing onto the back of my hand, sharp and cold. "Wendy, you actually think you deserve to celebrate a birthday?" "Today's Nancy's death anniversary, you poisonous woman who stole her place—how dare you have the nerve to celebrate your birthday?" I trembled all over, about to explain, but he shoved me harshly to the ground. "If it weren't for you, Nancy would never have thrown herself into the sea." "I should've let you die with her!" In excruciating pain, my phone buzzed with an anonymous message—a glaring photo. Nancy, wearing a bikini, nestled in the arms of a stranger, laughing wildly and carefree. Then the phone rang, Nancy's voice dripping with sarcasm: "Sister, happy wedding anniversary." "Nancy? You're not dead?" "Dead? How could I possibly die without seeing you suffer at Ben's hands, worse than death itself? What a waste that would be." "You think Ben loves you? You're just a discarded replacement to me. Sister, endure it well; this is exactly what you deserve."

Chapter 1 of "My Stepsister's Fake Death"

Ben Luke and I have been married for a whole year. This marriage was a joke I wrote and played myself from the very beginning. I loved Ben Luke—loved him so much that I agreed to this business alliance in marriage. I thought that, over time, feelings would grow. But all reality gave me was day after day of coldness and disgust. To win even a fraction of his attention, I did many foolish things. Like slipping drugs into his drink. The first time, the drug was diluted when he casually knocked over the glass; he just shot me a cold glance and said nothing. The second time, he seemed to have sensed it beforehand, and after taking the drink, he handed it straight to the servant. The third time, he gripped my wrist so hard I thought he would crush my bones. "Wendy Scott, are you really that low?" Those words stabbed into my heart like an ice pick. But I still hadn't given up. I kept telling myself maybe I just hadn't done enough. On my birthday, I went out of my way to cook a table full of his favorite dishes. I lit the candles and waited for him to come home. At the stroke of ten, he finally pushed the door open. He smelled of alcohol, his face dark and terrifying. Before I could even say happy birthday, he slammed his hand down and flipped the dining table. The sound of the plate shattering was piercingly sharp. "Who told you to touch these?" His voice roared, his eyes bloodshot. I trembled all over, terrified, not knowing where I had gone wrong. "Today is Nancy's death anniversary, and you actually have the heart to celebrate your birthday?" Nancy, Lincoln Nancy, my stepsister. Everyone thought she had drowned herself the day before Ben Luke and Nancy's wedding. Only Ben Luke pinned all the blame on me. He said it was me who drove Nancy to her death. He grabbed my hair and slammed my head against the wall. "Wendy Scott, why don't you just die?" Blood trickled down my forehead, warm at first, then quickly cold. That day, my birthday, became my day of torment. From then on, Ben Luke's abuse only intensified. He no longer hid his disgust; at home, he treated me like I was invisible. But sometimes, he would suddenly turn brutal. He'd lock me in a room all day without feeding me. At parties, he'd deliberately humiliate me, calling me a cruel woman who stole another's place. I lived like a joke, even breathing felt wrong. Until one day, I received an anonymous text. Inside was a photo of Nancy. She was smiling brightly in the photo, standing next to a stranger. My heart squeezed painfully—I could hardly believe my eyes. She wasn't dead? With trembling hands, I replied, "Who are you?" The reply came quickly: "Sister, long time no see. How have you been?" It was Nancy. It really was her. She had actually faked her death and escaped that wedding. I dialed the number, and the call was answered almost immediately.

"At three o'clock in the morning, you secretly threw the pillow stained with my amniotic fluid into the garbage dump. Do you want me to find the cleaner from back then to confront you?" At the moment the waves shattered the reef, I sank to the bottom of the sea, bearing eighteen years of grievances. Before my consciousness faded, Tina's malicious laughter still echoed in my ears: "Nicole, you're just a country bumpkin. Everything that belongs to the Scott Family was always mine!" "I never wanted to take anything from you, Tina," I said, coughing up seawater, my voice hoarse. "But why did you forge evidence, claim I stole Mom's jewelry, and drive me out of the house?" Mrs. Scott's voice was as cold as ice: "Don't call me Mom! Tina is my only daughter. Someone like you, who came from an orphanage, is not worthy of the Scott Family!" My eldest brother Bruce stood aside, his eyes filled with disgust: "Behave yourself and get out. Don't bring shame to the Scott Family anymore." The salty seawater choked my throat, and my heart was filled with resentment—I was the true young lady of the...

"Adam, the 99th marriage proposal, are you ready to finally make me happy?" Bella's voice came through the phone, dripping with her usual disdain. Even if he proposes a hundred times, I still won't say yes!" "This time, it's definitely going to be spectacular." I heard my own calm voice say, "I booked the most expensive penthouse in the city, flew in five thousand roses, and even invited the media." Her breathing got noticeably faster: "You should've done this ages ago! When exactly?" "Tomorrow night at seven. But Bella..." I deliberately paused, "are you sure you'll say yes just because it's a big show?" "Of course! I always keep my word." After hanging up, I chuckled softly at the photo of her entertaining guests on my computer screen. "Adam, are you crazy?" My buddy...
