I pulled out my phone and looked up Ethan Jackson's number that my mom had saved earlier. The phone rang several times before someone finally answered. "Hello, is this Ethan Jackson?" "I'm Harper Shane's daughter, Alice George. My mom had her leg broken by Nancy Clark while working at your home. Could you please come back and handle this?" There was a few seconds of silence on the other end before an unfamiliar voice responded. "Hello, this is Mr. Jackson's secretary." "Mr. Jackson has gone abroad for a project and won't be back anytime soon." "I'll report your mother's situation to Mr. Jackson, but the final decision will have to wait until he returns." "You should take your mother to the hospital first. I'll contact you if there's any news." I wanted to say more, but the call was already cut off. Hearing the busy signal on the phone, the anger inside me kept growing. Going abroad? Won't come back? They're clearly just brushing me off!
