"The perfume on your suit, Frank, isn't mine." I threw his coat onto the sofa, my fingertips cold. He tugged at his tie, avoiding my eyes. "I must've picked it up from a client. It happens." "Would a client join you for a candlelit dinner in the Rose Private Room on our Wedding Anniversary?" I slammed the invoice down. "And draw a heart with Mindy's lipstick?" "Whitney, stop being unreasonable!" He slammed his fist on the table. "Mindy's your sister — she's the deputy general manager of the company! We were just talking business!" "Talking business requires lying about working overtime?" I stepped closer. "Requires her parachuting into your company as the deputy general manager without even basic logistics knowledge?" The door suddenly flew open. Mindy walked in with her bag, smiling brightly. "Sister, why are you quarreling with Frank again?" "Quarreling?" I sneered. "You said you were on a business trip abroad last week — so why was your Moments full of photos of you getting caught in the rain in an ancient town?" Mindy's face drained of color. Frank jumped in to smooth things over. "Those are old photos!" "Old photos?" I pulled out my phone and held it right in front of his face. "The dates are crystal clear!" Mindy suddenly burst out laughing and looped her arm through Frank's. "Since we can't hide it anymore, I'll just say it straight — I've already passed your company's core client data to your competitors." I stared at Frank, my voice trembling. "You knew about this all along?"收起

Chapter 1 of "After Divorce, I Rose to Director"

In the fifth year of marrying Frank Collins, the air at home was as cold as if it had frozen solid. Even the sunlight drifting in from outside carried an unyielding chill; it fell on the floor but could not warm it for a moment. My name is Whitney Lynn. Five years ago, I married Frank Collins with a heart full of joy, believing we would walk hand in hand through all the years to come. But now, the warmth we once shared has long since worn away, leaving only silence and suspicion hanging heavily in the air. Frank's returns home grew later and later. Before, his clothes carried only a faint smell of smoke; now, they often bore a strange perfume—sickeningly sweet and sharp enough to sting my nostrils. That night, he came in pushing the door just before eleven. He didn't even look up when changing his shoes, his tone dismissive, as if dealing with an unimportant client: "I was busy with a project at the company today and forgot to message you." My gaze fell on the cuff of his suit; a long strand of hair with a chestnut sheen was tangled in the buttonhole. That wasn't my hair texture—mine was jet black and had never grown so long. "Were you busy with my sister, Mindy Lynn?" I tried to keep my voice calm. Frank Collins paused while tying his shoelaces, then tugged at his tie to avoid my gaze: "Yes, she's the project leader now; a lot depends on her taking charge." Mindy Lynn is my half-sister on my father's side; after my mother passed away and my father remarried, she became a part of this family. Three months ago, she was suddenly appointed deputy general manager at Frank Collins's logistics company, despite having no experience in the logistics industry, yet she was immediately installed in a high-ranking position. From that day onward, my marriage with Frank Collins was like a balloon with a small puncture—gradually deflating, bit by bit.

He placed the lukewarm water heavily before me; the coldness in his eyes threatened to freeze me to my core. For three years, I changed my posture, adjusted my tone, even counted my teeth when I smiled—but all I ever heard was that I was "not virtuous enough" and "ill-mannered." "Look at Yvonne; that is how a woman should behave!" I met his gaze calmly: "Kevin, I am breaking off the engagement." "How dare you threaten me? Besides me, who else would want a woman as unruly as you?" "Then I will just stay single." After breaking off the engagement, Kevin Luke's torment never ceased. He burst into my home, dragged me in public at a banquet, and even wreaked havoc at the engagement ceremony. On the day of the wedding, the church doors were violently thrown open; he stormed in clutching a dagger,...

On the night before I went abroad, Kevin held me in his arms and whispered gently in my ear. My heart was filled with anticipation for the sweetness that would come after my return. After five years of hard work, I concluded my term in the overseas mineral trade. As soon as the plane landed, a phone notification hit me like a bombshell: "Mr. Luke is engaged to a mysterious businesswoman, and the wedding will be held today." "How is this possible! I'm Kevin's legal wife!" At the hotel entrance, a staff member stopped me: "Madam, please show your invitation." "I'm Kevin's wife!" I pulled out my marriage certificate to show him. "Madam, please don't cause a disturbance with a fake certificate. Mr. Luke's fiancée is Ella!" "I'm not lying!" I shouted in anger. I rushed toward the...

"Open the door! Moira! It's already fifty degrees outside!" "Sorry, Rose," she said, licking the spoon, "the supplies are only enough for one person to survive." I woke up with a start. The cell phone showed: the 15th of June. I was reborn. "Rose? Are you okay?" Moira Thompson's sweet, syrupy voice came through the phone. I gripped the cell phone tightly. "My father's research data... I found it." "Really?" Her breathing instantly grew rapid. "Is it about the climate anomalies?" "Not just that. There's also... some things he predicted." I paused deliberately. "Come to my villa tomorrow. I'll tell you everything." "Great! I knew you wouldn't let me down!" I hung up and looked out the window. This time, who will be the one locked out? "Moira," I whispered to myself, "what's it like when a person melts from extreme heat?"收起

"Mr. Lowell, you have seen the photo, haven't you?" The voice on the phone carried a teasing laugh, "Do you like this gift for you?" I stared fixedly at the screen. In the dim light of the parking lot, Wendy Sullivan was kissing that security guard passionately, unwilling to part. My blood ran cold. I nearly crushed my mobile phone in my grip. "Who are you?" "Someone... who doesn't want to see you kept in the dark." The other side chuckled softly. "Ten years of feelings, Mr. Lowell." The voice hissed like a venomous snake, "Tell me, how much do you think it's worth?" I closed my eyes, my voice so cold it sounded unfamiliar even to myself: "What do you want?" "Me?" That laughter grew even more joyful. "I don't want anything. I just want to ask you one question——"

"Cynthia, you stole my necklace!" My foster sister Ophelia Lopez clutched the diamond necklace and sank to the floor, crying. My father, Jonathan Lopez, instantly slapped me across the face. "Dad! I didn't steal it—she lent it to me to wear!" I yelled, clutching my burning cheek. "Shut up!" He pointed toward the door, his eyes ice-cold. "The Lopez family has no place for someone with dirty hands like you. Get out!" I looked at the barely concealed smile on Ophelia Lopez's lips, then at my mother's indifferent face; my heart felt torn apart. "You'd rather believe an outsider than your daughter?" "Cynthia, stop it." My older brother Casper Lopez's voice came from the staircase, his tone laced with impatience. "Ophelia is so pure—how could she possibly lie to us?"收起
