The Three-Hour Mirage

Just last night, Raymond Gable knelt on one knee and said, "Nora, marry me. For the rest of my life, I'll only be good to you." But this morning, I stood in his office holding a breakfast made with love—only to find him embracing a stranger. "What are you doing here?" His eyes were cold, filled with contempt. "Have you forgotten last night's proposal?" I gripped the insulated box tightly, my voice trembling. He sneered, "Nora Salk, have you lost your mind? When did I ever propose to you?" The woman beside him whispered, "Raymond, I am your fiancée." A chill ran through me. "Raymond, you b*stard!" "Get out!" he snapped harshly, even calling the security guard to throw me out.收起

Chapter 1 of "The Three-Hour Mirage"

My relationship with Raymond Gable had just reached its sixth month. That evening, he took me to the most exclusive custom jewelry workshop in the city center. The diamonds in the glass cases glittered brilliantly, but none of it matched the intensity in his eyes. The designer stepped forward holding the blueprint, every detail personally decided by Raymond Gable. "This ring belongs only to you." He held my hand, his fingertips gently stroking mine. I could clearly feel the warmth of his palm, and the deep affection that seemed ready to overflow. "The custom fee of one million is nothing." He signed the order casually, his gaze fixed entirely on me. "What matters is, I want to give you a certain future." When the designer showed us the initial 3D model, Raymond Gable knelt down on one knee. He didn't take out a ring, but in the most solemn tone said, "Nora, marry me." My name is Nora Salk, and he always liked to call me that so intimately. Tears instantly blurred my vision. I nodded hard, my voice choking with sobs: "I do." He stood up and held me tightly in his arms. "I will love you forever, Nora." He whispered in my ear, his breath warm, "In this life, I'll only be good to you." That night, I fell asleep resting on his promise, my dreams filled with sweetness—images of the warm family we would build together. Early the next morning, just as dawn was breaking, I woke with no trace of sleepiness, my mind flooded with the memory of Raymond Gable's proposal. I rolled over and quietly slipped into the kitchen, wanting to make him a heartfelt breakfast to take to his company. Lately, he's been tied up with a big project, often working late into the night, and surely hasn't been eating properly. I toasted his favorite bread, fried a soft-boiled egg, and squeezed a fresh glass of orange juice. Carefully packing the breakfast into an insulated box, I changed into the dress he gave me, looked in the mirror, and couldn't hide the smile on my face. With the insulated box in hand, I hailed a cab and headed straight to Raymond Gable's company. The receptionist recognized me and smiled warmly, greeting me, "Miss Salk." "I'm bringing him some breakfast," I said. I smiled in reply. "You can go straight up. Mr. Gable said there's no need to notify anyone when you arrive." The receptionist handed me a temporary access card. I thanked her and stepped into the elevator. The elevator ascended slowly, and my heart began to race. Imagining Raymond Gable's surprised expression when he saw the breakfast, I couldn't help but smile. The elevator doors slid open to the quiet, spotless office on the top floor. Raymond Gable's office was at the very back, and I crept over quietly. The office door wasn't fully closed; it was left ajar. I was about to push the door open when I overheard a strange woman's voice from inside. "Raymond!" The woman's voice sounded teasing. My steps faltered, and an inexplicable tightening gripped my heart. I couldn't help but push the door open and step inside. Inside the office, Raymond Gable sat behind his desk, a woman in a white dress nestled against him. When the woman saw me, she lifted her head, a flicker of challenge in her eyes. Raymond Gable's brows immediately furrowed when he saw me. There wasn't a trace of surprise in his eyes—only disgust and coldness. "What are you doing here?" His tone was stiff, like he was shooing away someone irrelevant. I froze on the spot, nearly dropping the insulated box in my hand. "I... I brought you breakfast." My voice trembled a little. "No need." Raymond Gable cut me off coldly, "Who told you to come here? Get out." "Raymond, what do you mean by that?" I finally came to my senses, tears welling up, "Last night you still proposed to me, said you'd love me forever. Have you forgotten?" "Proposed?" Raymond Gable sneered, eyes full of mockery, "Nora, are you out of your mind? When did I ever propose to you?" His words were like a sharp knife, stabbing mercilessly into my heart.

"Petra, sign it, or I will make your life worse than death." Jerry pushed the divorce agreement in front of me for the tenth time; the cold paper cut through my heart like a blade. "Why should my property go to that b*tch?" Anne, wearing my robe, smiled like a blooming flower: "Because Jerry loves me." I clenched my fists, my nails digging into my flesh. "Not unless I'm dead." Jerry laughed, as if watching a dying ant struggle. "Fine, as you wish." That night, the stomach pain hit me again. I collapsed into the bathroom; my last conscious memory was of his indifferent back. When I woke, the hospital's disinfectant smell was sharp and biting. The doctor said my stomach had turned malignant—that I didn't have long to live.

After Divorce, I Became a Top-Tier Lawyer

"Laura, I borrowed Charles's shirt. Mine's still wet." Molly was wearing Charles's white shirt, its collar loose. She was twisting the hair tie I'd worn for three years in her hand. I clenched my fists, my voice trembling. "That's my hair tie. And his shirt—you have no right to wear it either." Charles immediately stepped in front of her. "It's just a shirt and a hair tie. Do you have to be this petty?" "Petty?" I laughed until tears streamed down my face. "She used your razor. She sat in your passenger seat and kissed you. Now she's waltzing in here and taking my things—and you call this petty?" Molly's eyes reddened. "Laura, it was my fault. Don't blame Charles." "Shut up!" I cut her off, my gaze fixed on Charles. "We're getting a divorce." His face dropped. He spoke in a threatening tone. "Laura, I'm a top-tier lawyer. You think you can get a divorce? You won't even get...

"Sign it." Norton Olsen slammed the agreement down in front of me, his gaze as cold as ice. "Serve Trista around the clock, ready whenever she calls." I stared at that humiliating paper, the old injury in my right hand aching faintly. For the past three years, I've been cooking and cleaning up the mess inside this cage. Norton Olsen sneered, "For your brother's medical bills, you'd better obey." "He's dead." I cut him off, staring straight into his suddenly shrinking pupils. I raised my disabled right hand, trembling but resolute: "Why do you think this hand is useless?!" "I'm the one who risked everything to rush in and save you during the earthquake three years ago—not Trista Sewell!" "All the humiliation you've piled on me over the years, consider it payment for the medical bills I covered for my brother." I opened the door and looked back one last time: "Norton Olsen, from now on, you and I—" "Will...

On the seventh year of our marriage, Ethan Scott began dressing up meticulously, but he alone forgot our wedding anniversary. He came home late at night, carrying the scent of unfamiliar perfume, ignoring the cake and gifts I had prepared. On my father's death anniversary, I saw clearly at that luxurious restaurant him smiling as he cut steak for that young woman. I rushed in, my voice trembling as I confronted him, "Today is my father's death anniversary! Have you forgotten who he died for?" He flipped out on the spot, pointing at my nose and yelling, "Riley Murphy, don't make a fool of yourself like a shrew in public!" "Like a shrew?" My heart felt like it was being ripped apart, tears streaming uncontrollably, "Ethan Scott, tell me exactly who did my father die trying to save?!" He looked at me, his eyes utterly devoid of guilt, filled only with cold impatience: "Enough—can we drop it?"收起

"Congratulations, Una Cruise." Linda Thorne swayed into my view. "But I did say earlier that anyone who likes Henry is doomed." The entire room burst into laughter. I watched my fiancé, Henry Lewis, standing protectively by Linda Thorne, and I smiled. "Sometimes, vows turn out to be more potent than you'd expect." I whispered. No sooner had I spoken than a smear of bird droppings fell from above, landing squarely on Linda Thorne's head. Screams erupted. Henry Lewis, furious, grabbed my wrist. "Una! You know da*n well what your cursed mouth—" I shook him off and glanced out at the suddenly darkening sky. "Those who did bad deeds," I smiled wryly, "are bound to be struck by lightning." His face changed instantly. "What did you just say to me?" I leaned close to his ear, speaking each word deliberately: "God is watching. Henry Lewis, let's see if my cursed mouth can call down heaven's wrath!"收起

The Battle in the Office

I clutched the stack of meeting minutes still warm from the printer, standing outside the director's office. The conversation coming from inside felt like sharp knives, piercing straight into my heart—"Please guide me more in my work from now on." Who else could that sickly sweet voice belong to, if not Mary, the new project team leader? "The company has rules; we don't discuss personal matters during work hours." Kevin's voice was as cold as ice. Before long, in the pantry, Mary's "accident" left me soaked through, and the monthly report was ruined beyond repair. "Oh no, I'm so sorry—why are you so clumsy when walking?" She apologized with her mouth, but her eyes were filled with pride. I clenched my teeth and held back my anger, but never expected that during the project review meeting, my PPT would disappear without a trace. All eyes in the room focused on me, and I became the biggest joke. "Do you really...

I bumped into Mia leaning in Mike Collins' arms at the corner of the pediatric corridor; he was bending down to kiss her forehead. "Simon? What are you doing here?" When Mia looked up, the smile at the corner of her mouth hadn't even had time to fade. Mike put his arm around her waist and said, "Is this the one you were talking about, Mia?" I clenched my fists so tightly that my knuckles turned white. "Nora has a fever of 39 degrees Celsius. I brought her here for emergency treatment. What about you two? Do you need to accompany the partner all the way to the door of the Infusion Room?" Mia's face changed abruptly. She pushed Mike's hand away and snapped at me, "Simon, stop being sarcastic! Mr. Collins and I only have a working relationship! It's you who can't even take care of a child properly—you let Nora scrape her knee last time, and now you...
