After Divorce, I Became a Top-Tier Lawyer

"Laura, I borrowed Charles's shirt. Mine's still wet." Molly was wearing Charles's white shirt, its collar loose. She was twisting the hair tie I'd worn for three years in her hand. I clenched my fists, my voice trembling. "That's my hair tie. And his shirt—you have no right to wear it either." Charles immediately stepped in front of her. "It's just a shirt and a hair tie. Do you have to be this petty?" "Petty?" I laughed until tears streamed down my face. "She used your razor. She sat in your passenger seat and kissed you. Now she's waltzing in here and taking my things—and you call this petty?" Molly's eyes reddened. "Laura, it was my fault. Don't blame Charles." "Shut up!" I cut her off, my gaze fixed on Charles. "We're getting a divorce." His face dropped. He spoke in a threatening tone. "Laura, I'm a top-tier lawyer. You think you can get a divorce? You won't even get the house!" I pulled out a USB drive and slammed it on the table. "Did you really think you could hide your betrayal so well... just because you're a lawyer?"收起

Chapter 1 of "After Divorce, I Became a Top-Tier Lawyer"

On New Year's Eve 2023, I was busy in the kitchen until seven. The sweet and sour ribs under the warming cover were steaming—Charles Luke's favorite. The phone screen dimmed and lit up again. I opened our chat for the fifth time, typed "When will you be back," then deleted it. In the end, I didn't send the message. "Mom, is Dad not coming back again?" My son Bruce lay on the sofa playing games, not even looking up. I walked over and rubbed his hair, my fingertips cold. "Don't say that. Your dad is a top-tier lawyer—he has a lot of cases at the end of the year." At 8:15, the door opened. Charles Luke took off his suit jacket, a faint scent of perfume lingering on him—not the one I usually use. "Charles, you're back." I stepped forward to take his briefcase. He shifted to the side, dodging me, with a young girl following behind. The girl wore an off-white trench coat, smiling shyly: "Laura Lynn, sorry to bother you. I'm Molly Xavier, Lawyer Luke's client." I froze in place, watching Charles lead her into the living room. "Bruce, call Ms. Molly." Bruce frowned but didn't move. I tugged at the corner of my mouth. "Ms. Xavier, please have a seat. Would you like some water?" "No need to trouble Laura. I'm just here to pick up a document and I'll be leaving right away." Molly said that, her gaze sweeping over the wedding photo in the living room before she naturally helped Charles adjust his tie. That movement was too intimate—I nearly dropped the cup of water in my hand. "Here's the document. Please double-check it." When Charles handed over the document, his fingertip brushed the back of her hand. "Thank you, Lawyer Luke. I really appreciate your help today." Molly Xavier smiled, her eyes curling into crescent moons. They stepped out side by side, and I saw Charles Luke holding the car door open for her, carefully shielding her from the car roof. The hallway motion-sensor light went off; I stood in the dark until Bruce's call snapped me back. "Mom, who's that woman? Dad's eyes look strange when he looks at her." I didn't answer and turned into the kitchen. The dishes on the table were still steaming, but I had no appetite at all. At the stroke of midnight, Charles Luke returned. "Where have you been?" I sat on the sofa waiting for him. "Take Molly Xavier home; she's just a young girl, and it's not safe for her to be out so late." He was changing his shoes. "Where does she live? Does it really take you three hours to get her there?" I locked eyes with him. Charles Luke paused, sounding impatient: "Laura Lynn, are you checking up on me? Molly's family had some trouble, she's emotionally unstable. I just stayed to talk with her for a bit." "Talk about what? About her using your cologne?" I grabbed the coat he'd taken off on the sofa. His expression shifted: "Don't make a scene. It was probably just an accidental brush." I didn't press the matter and tossed the coat into the washing machine. Amid the roar of water, I could feel my heartbeat sinking little by little.

"Sign it." Norton Olsen slammed the agreement down in front of me, his gaze as cold as ice. "Serve Trista around the clock, ready whenever she calls." I stared at that humiliating paper, the old injury in my right hand aching faintly. For the past three years, I've been cooking and cleaning up the mess inside this cage. Norton Olsen sneered, "For your brother's medical bills, you'd better obey." "He's dead." I cut him off, staring straight into his suddenly shrinking pupils. I raised my disabled right hand, trembling but resolute: "Why do you think this hand is useless?!" "I'm the one who risked everything to rush in and save you during the earthquake three years ago—not Trista Sewell!" "All the humiliation you've piled on me over the years, consider it payment for the medical bills I covered for my brother." I opened the door and looked back one last time: "Norton Olsen, from now on, you and I—" "Will...

Betrayal on My Father's Memorial Day

On the seventh year of our marriage, Ethan Scott began dressing up meticulously, but he alone forgot our wedding anniversary. He came home late at night, carrying the scent of unfamiliar perfume, ignoring the cake and gifts I had prepared. On my father's death anniversary, I saw clearly at that luxurious restaurant him smiling as he cut steak for that young woman. I rushed in, my voice trembling as I confronted him, "Today is my father's death anniversary! Have you forgotten who he died for?" He flipped out on the spot, pointing at my nose and yelling, "Riley Murphy, don't make a fool of yourself like a shrew in public!" "Like a shrew?" My heart felt like it was being ripped apart, tears streaming uncontrollably, "Ethan Scott, tell me exactly who did my father die trying to save?!" He looked at me, his eyes utterly devoid of guilt, filled only with cold impatience: "Enough—can we drop it?"收起

"Congratulations, Una Cruise." Linda Thorne swayed into my view. "But I did say earlier that anyone who likes Henry is doomed." The entire room burst into laughter. I watched my fiancé, Henry Lewis, standing protectively by Linda Thorne, and I smiled. "Sometimes, vows turn out to be more potent than you'd expect." I whispered. No sooner had I spoken than a smear of bird droppings fell from above, landing squarely on Linda Thorne's head. Screams erupted. Henry Lewis, furious, grabbed my wrist. "Una! You know da*n well what your cursed mouth—" I shook him off and glanced out at the suddenly darkening sky. "Those who did bad deeds," I smiled wryly, "are bound to be struck by lightning." His face changed instantly. "What did you just say to me?" I leaned close to his ear, speaking each word deliberately: "God is watching. Henry Lewis, let's see if my cursed mouth can call down heaven's wrath!"收起

The Battle in the Office

I clutched the stack of meeting minutes still warm from the printer, standing outside the director's office. The conversation coming from inside felt like sharp knives, piercing straight into my heart—"Please guide me more in my work from now on." Who else could that sickly sweet voice belong to, if not Mary, the new project team leader? "The company has rules; we don't discuss personal matters during work hours." Kevin's voice was as cold as ice. Before long, in the pantry, Mary's "accident" left me soaked through, and the monthly report was ruined beyond repair. "Oh no, I'm so sorry—why are you so clumsy when walking?" She apologized with her mouth, but her eyes were filled with pride. I clenched my teeth and held back my anger, but never expected that during the project review meeting, my PPT would disappear without a trace. All eyes in the room focused on me, and I became the biggest joke. "Do you really...

I bumped into Mia leaning in Mike Collins' arms at the corner of the pediatric corridor; he was bending down to kiss her forehead. "Simon? What are you doing here?" When Mia looked up, the smile at the corner of her mouth hadn't even had time to fade. Mike put his arm around her waist and said, "Is this the one you were talking about, Mia?" I clenched my fists so tightly that my knuckles turned white. "Nora has a fever of 39 degrees Celsius. I brought her here for emergency treatment. What about you two? Do you need to accompany the partner all the way to the door of the Infusion Room?" Mia's face changed abruptly. She pushed Mike's hand away and snapped at me, "Simon, stop being sarcastic!
