The Scorned Wife's Redemption

2026-03-04

Standing in the rain, I held Snow in my arms in front of the Lynn Family's villa. The nanny Amy frowned as soon as she opened the door. "Sophia? What are you doing here?" Hugo Lynn stroked Snow, his eyes cold. "Who let you in?" "Returning the cat." I held it out to him, and Snow immediately leaped into his arms. Rachel looped her arm through his, her smile sharp with malice. "Still stuck in the shadow of your divorce, are you?" I turned to leave, but Hugo called after me. "Rachel and I are getting engaged next month. I won't send you an invitation—don't want to ruin your mood." I glanced back, sneering. "Congratulations. Birds of a feather flock together." Rachel lost her composure at once. "You were the one who cheated back then..." "You drugged me and faked those photos!" I pulled out the surveillance screenshots. "Did you really think he'd never find out?" Hugo clenched his fists tightly. "Are you trying to drive a wedge between us?" "Drive a wedge?" I leaned closer. "You lost Snow on purpose, didn't you? There's a USB drive with your company's confidential information in its collar. Who put it there?" His pupils constricted sharply, and Rachel's face turned deathly pale. I stepped back into the rain. Behind me, his roar rang out. "What exactly do you know?"收起

Chapter 1 of "The Scorned Wife's Redemption"

Rain streaked diagonally against the umbrella as I stood in front of the Lynn Family's villa, holding the warm cat in my arms. This cat, named Snow, was Hugo Lynn's beloved. I found her three days ago in an Old Town alley; her collar was engraved with the Lynn Family's contact details. The moment I pressed the doorbell, a sudden chill crept up my fingertips. Amy opened the door—she'd been the Lynn Family's housekeeper for ten years. The moment she saw my face, her brows instantly furrowed. "Sophia Scott? What are you doing here?" Her voice was low but guarded. As she stepped aside to let me in, she kept her distance deliberately. The living room was warm and well-lit. Hugo Lynn sat on the sofa reviewing documents. Hearing a noise, he looked up, and the instant his eyes met mine, they turned cold. "Who told you to come in?" I handed over Snow, who immediately wriggled free from my arms and jumped into Hugo's lap, rubbing against him like she owned the place. "Found your cat and brought her back." He didn't say a word, just carefully wiped Snow's paws—just now dirtying my clothes—with a tissue. The disdain behind every movement felt like needles stabbing me. The sound of high heels came from upstairs. Rachel Jones held the railing as she walked down, her beige dress making her skin look even paler. "Hugo, has Snow come back?" She came up beside Hugo Lynn and naturally linked her arm with his. When she saw me, a flash of triumph crossed her eyes before she quickly masked it with surprise. "Ah, isn't this Sophia Scott? Long time no see." I ignored her and turned to leave. "Wait." Hugo's voice called from behind me. I stopped but didn't look back. "Next month, Rachel and I are getting engaged. I'm not sending you an invitation—won't trouble you with it, in case it upsets you." That sentence crashed down on me like a block of ice, breaking my heart. Suddenly, memories from three years ago flooded my mind. It was right here in this living room—I was holding my maternity checkup report, but I saw Rachel nestled in Hugo's arms, holding a 'close-up photo' of me with some stranger. "Sophia Scott, you truly disgust me." Hugo's voice overlapped with the one from back then, but the disgust in his eyes was even stronger then than it is now. I stormed into the bedroom and grabbed the evidence I had long prepared—transaction records between Rachel and that man, and surveillance screenshots showing her secretly slipping drugs into my water. "She framed me! Hugo Lynn, open your eyes!" He brushed my hand away roughly, and the documents scattered all over the floor. "Enough! Sophia Scott, stop denying it." Rachel Jones was crying nearby, claiming I was taking revenge because I couldn't have children. Later, those doctored photos spread all over the business district, and I became the sl*t everyone despised. The Lynn Family forced me to sign a divorce agreement, leaving me with nothing, accusing me of bringing shame to the family. The bitter irony was, that day I had planned to tell him—we were having a child. "Sophia Scott? What are you spacing out for?" Rachel Jones's voice pulled me back to reality. I turned around and looked at the couple about to get engaged right in front of me, then suddenly smiled. "Congratulations." The word came out calmly, but my heart was anything but still. Hugo frowned, clearly not expecting that reaction from me. "Your Rescue Center is still running?" "Yeah, it's in Old Town, called 'Homecoming.'" Amy brought a cup of water and placed it on the coffee table in front of me, deliberately sliding it to the edge. "Ms. Scott, the cat has been delivered. You may leave now. The gentleman and Ms. Jones still have matters to discuss." I hadn't drunk any water. I stood up and headed for the door. At the entrance, Hugo Lynn's voice came again: "I've transferred Snow's medical expenses to you." Without stopping, I opened the door and stepped out into the rain. "No need, I'm a vet." The rain soaked the tips of my hair, but it somehow made me feel unusually clear-headed. It had been three years; I was no longer the woman clinging to the Lynn Family. At the Rescue Center in Old Town, dozens of fur kids were waiting for me—that's where my life truly belonged.

How dare you show up! Did you forge the death notice back then?" His grip tightened: "It was for the mission. Forget me—it's for the best for both of us." "Forget you?" I spun around sharply. "I've guarded your 'ashes' for three years, and now you're going to marry Mindy?" His eyes darkened: "Lydia, there's more to this. I can't explain." "More to this means watching me suffer, watching her provoke me?" I touched the scar on his neck. "You got this saving me. Can you forget that too?" He stiffened. Mindy's footsteps echoed in the corridor. He pinned me against the wall: "Don't expose the past, or else—" I cut him off: "Or else kill me, and forge another death notice?"
