The Girl Within the Wall

I was shoved into the concrete compartment by them. Huddled in the gap of the compartment, concrete scraps dug into my palms, and I trembled with pain. In my ears came Leo's drunk roar: "Where is Wendy? Where have you hidden her!" "Leo," Jim's voice was laced with a sneer, "Your wife—she must have been long dead by now, right?" "When she was dragged away, she was just like a stray dog." "Bullsh*t!" Leo's fist slammed against the wall. "How dare you touch her—" Vivian let out a scoff. "Leo, that little deaf girl you protected back then—she can never hear you speak again now, can she?" Leo's furious shout made the concrete compartment rustle with falling dust. "If she's alive, I want to see her; if she's dead, I want to see her body!" I thought of the disgust in his eyes when he was protecting Vivian—only to realize that our seven years of relationship couldn't even stand against an elaborate scam they'd plotted. "Leo," I drew my last breath inside the concrete wall, and in a voice only I could hear, I said, "In the next life... I don't want to meet you again."收起

Chapter 1 of "The Girl Within the Wall"

The night was like thick ink spilled over the lawn of the ocean villa; the sea breeze, tinged with a salty, moist breath, swept through the treetops. A swarm of drones, bearing flecks of red light, tore across the sky, forming a flowing river of stars. As Leo Shawn knelt on one knee, the crease of his bespoke suit trousers lay impeccably smooth, without a single wrinkle. Scarlet rose petals fell gently from the sky, drifting onto his hair, my skirt's hem, and the exquisitely cut diamond ring, whose brilliance pierced my eyes with painful light. "Wendy, marry me." His voice was low and tender, wrapped in the damp sea breeze, perfectly overlapping with the tone of the boy from seven years ago in that back alley. Friends and family around us raised their champagne glasses, cheering loudly, while flashes of light burst forth in succession; suddenly, I heard a faint buzzing in my left ear, like rusty gears slowly turning, carrying a lingering ache. It was a sound forgotten for seven years, emanating from the back alley of the old southern district, cluttered with discarded cardboard boxes and dilapidated furniture. At fifteen, I crouched in the corner of the wall, my school uniform jacket torn askew, while three thugs, their hair dyed yellow, jabbed my back with wooden sticks, cursing with words too vile to repeat; the sharp pain in my left ear nearly robbed me of hearing, leaving me able only to see their lips moving. The iron barrel at the alley entrance was kicked open with a harsh clang; resolute footsteps approached, and upon glimpsing the newcomer, the thugs muttered curses, abandoned their sticks, and fled without looking back. The youth clad in a white shirt crouched before me, the stray hairs at his brow dampened with sweat, his fingers stained with a red marker pen purchased from the convenience store at the Alley Entrance, inscribing crooked letters upon the dusty back of my hand. "My deaf girl, I will protect you from now on." The handwriting bore the boldness of youth; the ink seeping into my skin like a flame, scorching my hand until it tingled, burning through the shadows of my adolescence. He was Leo Shawn, the transfer student who had just moved into our neighborhood then. Rumored to be wealthy, his sharp gaze like an unsharpened blade, yet on that sweltering afternoon, he gave me the only light within my darkness. I remember he took a bandage from his schoolbag and clumsily pressed it against the bleeding skin behind my ear, his touch as light as if he feared breaking some precious treasure.

Her Second Sun

During lunch break, a hot search popped up on my phone: "Is it wrong to fall in love with someone who's already married?" I sneered, fingers scrolling, then suddenly froze— That name, Victoria Lowell, stabbed into my eyes like a poisoned knife. "Stella, you lost." Three years ago, on that rainy night, she leaned close to my ear, her breath burning, "Ryan Sterling is mine. Everything you have is mine now." I clenched my fists, nails digging into my skin. "You'll regret this." She laughed even more recklessly: "Regret? Look who's left with nothing now."收起

My Husband's Double Standard

I was kneeling on the floor wiping for the third time when Jeremy Chester called. "The disinfectant concentration at the entrance is off. Spray again." A soft, playful laugh came from the phone's background. My fingers stiffened. Half an hour later, in his car, I found a used condom and smelled a sweet perfume I'd never worn. The next day, I went to the company to confront him. When I pushed open the office door, he and his secretary, Susanna Houston, were disheveled. He snapped, "What are you doing?! Who told you to come in without sterile clothes?!" I tossed the used condom right in front of him. He frowned instantly, backing away: "Get that disgusting thing away from me!" "Disgusting?" I smirked, "Weren't you the one using it?"收起

It was the fifth year after graduation; I thought I'd live my life like this. That early morning, my mobile phone suddenly lit up, and a message pierced my eyes like a sharp blade—it was Yvonne Jones, my ex-girlfriend whom I had long blocked but who always found ways to contact me. She arrogantly invited me to her father-in-law's sixtieth birthday banquet, her words laced with mockery and condescension. The Broken Marriage

At the welcome banquet, I was holding my daughter Ann's hand as I pushed open the door, and immediately heard Mr. Green's secretary say in a sweet, delicate voice, "That time with the drugging, it was all thanks to Mr. Green." Five-year-old Ann looked up and asked, "Mom, what does drugging mean?" Laughter erupted around the table. My fingertips went numb as I gritted my teeth and shoved the divorce agreement into my bag. Finn Green reached out to hug Ann, but I took a half step back and quietly told her, "From now on, call him 'Mr. Green.'" In that moment, I knew this marriage was nothing but ashes, and I would walk out of the fire carrying my daughter with me.收起

My Best Friend's Betrayal

On the grand opening day of my restaurant, my best female friend and fiancé handed me a "consultation fee" bill for 500,000. I smiled and accepted it, then handed back a dining bill for 1,280,000. "The 1982 Comte de Champagne was opened by your own hands, and the imported Wagyu beef was your specific request." Watching their faces change abruptly, I gently swirled my wine glass. This play has only just begun.收起

New Life at Sixty

The sun on my 60th birthday scorched the back of my neck, yet the cancer diagnosis in my hand felt icy enough to pierce my bones. I slapped the diagnosis onto the dining table and stared at Robert, who was rubbing his mahjong tiles across from me. "I have cancer—late stage," I said. He didn't even look up, his tone irritable. "How much will treatment cost? We can't touch the money for the kids' down payment on a house." My chest tightened, and my voice trembled. "The doctor said treatment is pointless. All I ask is a decent urn for my ashes after I'm gone." He finally lifted his head, his eyes filled with calculation. "Urns are expensive too. Let's split it—Going Dutch. I'll pay half." "Robert!" I slammed my palm on the table, forty years of grievances erupting in an instant. "We've shared a bed for forty years, and I don't even deserve a whole urn?" He frowned in...
