The Disrespected Wife

2026-03-04

I never imagined my marriage could be shattered by a game of Truth or Dare. When Kathy Zimmerman smiled at my husband Adam Green and said, "If I'm still unmarried by 30, I'll have your child," the air in the entire living room went cold. Everyone was waiting for my reaction, including the man I once believed would protect me forever — and he just smiled and said she was only joking. That's when I realized, some "female friends" never really just want to be friends.收起

Chapter 1 of "The Disrespected Wife"

The weekend gathering was held at the villa of Adam Green's childhood friend. The air was filled with the scent of grilled meat, and light pop music played from the speakers. I sat in the corner of the sofa, watching Adam Green and his friends fooling around. Kathy Zimmerman walked over carrying two cups of juice and casually sat down on the single sofa beside Adam Green. She was one of Adam Green's "female friends", someone who had been by his side since university. I hadn't really paid much attention before; I always thought it was fine as long as friends got along naturally. But when someone suggested playing Truth or Dare, the atmosphere suddenly changed. The wine bottle spun three times and finally came to rest pointing steadily at Kathy Zimmerman. "Truth or dare?" The questioner's tone was teasing. Kathy smiled slightly, her gaze sweeping over me before finally settling on Adam Green. "Truth," she said. Her voice was soft but loud enough for everyone present to hear. "Then I'll ask," the questioner paused, "have you ever thought about what you'll do if you're still unmarried by thirty?" The living room suddenly fell silent, all eyes fixed on Kathy Zimmerman. I tightened my grip on the cup, feeling a strange unease inside. Kathy Zimmerman put down her juice cup, leaned forward slightly, and looked at Adam Green with a seriousness I had never seen before. "If I'm still not married by thirty," she said word by word, "I'll have a child with Adam Green." Her words were like a stone thrown into a calm lake, causing an uproar. Some whistled; others joined in the jeering. I could feel my cheeks flush instantly—not from shyness, but from embarrassment. Adam Green sat there silently, only scratching his head and smiling as he said, "Don't be ridiculous." But that smile had no hint of seriousness; it was more like she was going along with Kathy Zimmerman's joke. The hand on my knee clenched into a fist, my nails digging into my palm. This isn't a joke, at least not to me. I am Adam Green's wife, and we have just celebrated our first wedding anniversary. Kathy obviously knows, yet she said those words in front of so many people. I looked up at Kathy, and she met my gaze, her eyes carrying a faint but unmistakable challenge. The atmosphere became tense; the teasing gradually quieted as everyone silently observed my reaction. Adam Green seemed oblivious to my unease, still laughing and chatting with the people beside him, as if what Kathy Zimmerman just said was merely an ordinary joke. I took a deep breath, suppressing the anger that welled up inside me. I didn't want to cause a scene at the party—after all, they were all Adam's friends. But that feeling of being offended was like a thorn in my heart, impossible to remove.

The sunlight on our seventh wedding anniversary morning was as warm as it had been on our wedding day seven years ago. I was trimming champagne roses when suddenly, the words "white tulips" pricked my ears. Looking up, I saw Daniel standing against the backlight. His sharp, well-tailored suit made my eyes ache. "Whitney? Is it really you?" He took a step forward. "The flowers are eighty," I said, lowering my eyes to wrap the bouquet, pretending not to recognize him. He slammed down a yellowed photo—one where I was leaning on his shoulder. "You said white tulips were just like our love!" "I got married three years ago," I pushed the bouquet toward him. "My husband gave me this shop." He grabbed my wrist; his palm was terrifyingly hot. "You're lying to me! This was our favorite place—you never let go of the past!" "Let go!" I wrenched my hand free. "Back then, the whole school called me names, my parents were so worried they got sick, and you were hugging Rachel, calling me malicious!" "Rachel lied to me!" His voice...

I fell from the eighteenth floor, yet began to float in midair. Looking down, I saw Julia White kneeling beside a pool of blood, her fingertip nearly touching my untied shoelace. I cut her off; the little dog's spirit in my arms radiated a warm glow. She froze, her outstretched hand stiff in midair. "What?" "The heaven I'm heading to," I said, pointing to the pure light behind me, "has no place for you."收起

In the third year of the post-apocalyptic world, I huddled in the corner like a stray dog. "Mike, you useless wretch with no supernatural powers! Being with you is just waiting to die!" Quincy's voice was shrill and grating. Harry put his arm around her and said to me, "Know your place and get out of here on your own!" I clenched my fists tightly. "Don't go too far!" "Survival of the fittest—that's the rule of the apocalypse!" Harry sneered. "Trash like you is just wasting air by being alive!" Before his words faded away, the howls of zombies suddenly erupted in the night. I clung to the shelf, watching as a face-missing zombie pounced at me. Suddenly, a sharp pain exploded in my head, and a faint blue light flickered at my fingertips. To my surprise, the zombie retreated obediently behind me, whimpering softly. "Wha... What is this?"
