My Hero's Final Words

2026-03-04

I had expected an ordinary blind date, but I never imagined that fate would take such a sudden turn. After marrying him, we saw each other rarely. He was away for long stretches, and I carried the household on my own, working two jobs to support the family while coping with the demands and difficulties from my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. Our daughter craved her father's love, but he was always absent, claiming he was too busy. Shortly after I asked for a divorce, I received news that he had died during an earthquake rescue, sacrificing himself to protect kindergarten children...收起

Chapter 1 of "My Hero's Final Words"

The rich scent of latte drifted from the corner cafe, sunlight filtering through the blinds, casting mottled shadows across the wooden table. I stood at the doorway, clutching the hem of my clothes, while the matchmaker was already inside, waving to me. "This is Linda Scott," the matchmaker said with a smile, pulling me down to sit before turning to the man across from us. "Linda, this is Daniel Lewis, the one I told you about." I looked up; the man wore a dark gray coat, the cuffs smooth and faintly shining from frequent rubbing. His hair was neatly trimmed, his features sharp, but his eyes carried a subtle, almost imperceptible weariness. "Hello." I spoke first, my voice lighter than I had expected. "Hello." He replied, his voice low and rough, like sandpaper gently rubbing, without much emotion. For the next half hour, I was almost the only one keeping the conversation going. "What kind of work do you usually do when you're away?" "Managing projects." He answered briefly. "Do you like sweets? This place is known for its cake." "It's okay." I awkwardly stirred the coffee in front of me, the foam leaving a faint ring on the cup's edge. Just as I thought this blind date would end in silence, he suddenly spoke. "From now on, you might have to handle more of the household matters." As he said this, his fingers unconsciously tightened around the coffee cup handle, his knuckles turning pale. I was momentarily stunned, then nodded. At that time, I didn't have many romantic expectations about marriage; I just thought that the man in front of me looked honest and reliable, someone with whom I could live a steady life—that was enough.

It turned out that my precious child was a "lifesaving cure" for my younger brother. And when the doctor asked, "Protect the mother or the child?" my mother, Viola Smith, screamed hoarsely the words that sent me into hell: "Protect the child! The child must be protected!"收起

Driving home, my fingers brushed the silk scarf on the passenger seat, only to touch something coarse—a pair of gray men's underwear with a glaring cartoon design. After Divorce, I Rose to Director

"The perfume on your suit, Frank, isn't mine." I threw his coat onto the sofa, my fingertips cold. He tugged at his tie, avoiding my eyes. "I must've picked it up from a client. It happens." "Would a client join you for a candlelit dinner in the Rose Private Room on our Wedding Anniversary?" I slammed the invoice down. "And draw a heart with Mindy's lipstick?" "Whitney, stop being unreasonable!" He slammed his fist on the table. "Mindy's your sister — she's the deputy general manager of the company! We were just talking business!" "Talking business requires lying about working overtime?" I stepped closer. "Requires her parachuting into your company as the deputy general manager without even basic logistics knowledge?" The door suddenly flew open. Mindy walked in with her bag, smiling brightly. "Sister, why are you quarreling with Frank again?" "Quarreling?" I sneered. "You said you were on a business trip abroad last week — so why was your...

"No matter how upright you stand, you cannot conceal the arrogance embedded in your very bones." He placed the lukewarm water heavily before me; the coldness in his eyes threatened to freeze me to my core. For three years, I changed my posture, adjusted my tone, even counted my teeth when I smiled—but all I ever heard was that I was "not virtuous enough" and "ill-mannered." "Look at Yvonne; that is how a woman should behave!" I met his gaze calmly: "Kevin, I am breaking off the engagement." "How dare you threaten me? Besides me, who else would want a woman as unruly as you?" "Then I will just stay single." After breaking off the engagement, Kevin Luke's torment never ceased. He burst into my home, dragged me in public at a banquet, and even wreaked havoc at the engagement ceremony. On the day of the wedding, the church doors were violently thrown open; he stormed in clutching a dagger,...

"Quincy, when you finish your work overseas and come back, we'll do our wedding photoshoot, and then go traveling for a month." On the night before I went abroad, Kevin held me in his arms and whispered gently in my ear. My heart was filled with anticipation for the sweetness that would come after my return. After five years of hard work, I concluded my term in the overseas mineral trade. As soon as the plane landed, a phone notification hit me like a bombshell: "Mr. Luke is engaged to a mysterious businesswoman, and the wedding will be held today." "How is this possible! I'm Kevin's legal wife!" At the hotel entrance, a staff member stopped me: "Madam, please show your invitation." "I'm Kevin's wife!" I pulled out my marriage certificate to show him. "Madam, please don't cause a disturbance with a fake certificate. Mr. Luke's fiancée is Ella!" "I'm not lying!" I shouted in anger. I rushed toward the...

"Open the door! Moira! It's already fifty degrees outside!" "Sorry, Rose," she said, licking the spoon, "the supplies are only enough for one person to survive." I woke up with a start. The cell phone showed: the 15th of June. I was reborn. "Rose? Are you okay?" Moira Thompson's sweet, syrupy voice came through the phone. I gripped the cell phone tightly. "My father's research data... I found it." "Really?" Her breathing instantly grew rapid. "Is it about the climate anomalies?" "Not just that. There's also... some things he predicted." I paused deliberately. "Come to my villa tomorrow. I'll tell you everything." "Great! I knew you wouldn't let me down!" I hung up and looked out the window. This time, who will be the one locked out? "Moira," I whispered to myself, "what's it like when a person melts from extreme heat?"收起

I Canceled Our Wedding After That Photo

"Mr. Lowell, you have seen the photo, haven't you?" The voice on the phone carried a teasing laugh, "Do you like this gift for you?" I stared fixedly at the screen. In the dim light of the parking lot, Wendy Sullivan was kissing that security guard passionately, unwilling to part. My blood ran cold. I nearly crushed my mobile phone in my grip. "Who are you?" "Someone... who doesn't want to see you kept in the dark." The other side chuckled softly. "Ten years of feelings, Mr. Lowell." The voice hissed like a venomous snake, "Tell me, how much do you think it's worth?" I closed my eyes, my voice so cold it sounded unfamiliar even to myself: "What do you want?" "Me?" That laughter grew even more joyful. "I don't want anything. I just want to ask you one question——"
