Humiliated, I Showed My True Hand

2026-03-03

The smell of alcohol in the private room mingled with a pungent perfume, choking me and making my throat tight. Still, I held a full glass of wine, forcing a smile at the oily-faced Mr. Wilson: "Mr. Wilson, I'll drink this on Whitney's behalf. Please take good care of the project for us." Mr. Wilson patted my shoulder: "Henry, it's not worth it to be such a yes-man." I downed the full glass of wine, my throat burning with pain. But Whitney sneered: "Henry, you look so disgusting like this." "I'm doing all this for you," I said, clenching my fists. "For me?" She suddenly stood up, hooked her arm around Mike who had just walked in, and disdain practically oozed from her eyes and brows. "I was just using you to pass the time. Did you really think I'd be into a poor guy like you?" Mike flicked his wristwatch: "You'll never be able to give Whitney what she wants, not in this lifetime." A sharp pain twisted in my stomach. I leaned against the wall, watching them leave as the taste of blood rose to my throat. They had no idea what kind of price they would pay for this "test." I wiped away the bloodstains and smiled: "Whitney, Mike, the game has only just begun."收起

Chapter 1 of "Humiliated, I Showed My True Hand"

The private room reeked of alcohol mixed with cheap perfume, the stifling air making it hard to breathe. I held a full glass of strong liquor, my stomach churning wildly, yet I forced a smile: "Mr. Wilson, I'll toast to you on Whitney's behalf. Regarding the project, I'll still have to trouble you to take care of it." Mr. Wilson's greasy hand slammed onto my shoulder, the grip nearly crushing my bones. Squinting, he grinned, "Henry, I'm just telling you—chasing women can't be so pathetic. Running yourself ragged like a beast of burden, they might not even appreciate it." I said nothing, tilting my head back to down the whole glass of white liquor. The fiery liquid seared my throat, a blaze igniting in my stomach, sweat instantly breaking out on my forehead, and the roots of my teeth aching. "Slow down, you drink like you're starving. It looks cheap." Whitney Lynn's voice was coy but dripping with disdain. She sat beside Mr. Wilson, her makeup impeccable, eyes fixed on me as if I were rubbish stuck to the sole of a shoe. I wiped the corner of my mouth clean of liquor stains, forcing myself upright. "Whitney, I'm fine. As long as Mr. Wilson is happy and the project succeeds, that's all that matters." Who asked you to drink for me? Whitney Lynn frowned and pushed me aside. "You reek of alcohol—smelling awful. Don't stand here and block the way." Mr. Wilson laughed loudly, wrapping his arm around Whitney Lynn's waist, his fingers roaming inappropriately. "Whitney, your fiance is obedient, but he really lacks presence—like a mere follower." The pain in my stomach suddenly intensified, like a rusty knife twisting inside. I clutched my belly, my fingertips cold, cold sweat dripping onto the floor. What's wrong with you? Whitney Lynn gave me a glance filled only with impatience, not a trace of concern. "N-Nothing." I clenched my teeth, my vision clouded, but forced myself to focus. "About the project contract... when will it be signed on your end?" "You don't need to concern yourself with the contract anymore." Whitney's voice suddenly became light as she rose and headed toward the private room door.

The cold river water seeped into my collar, while someone on the bank shouted, "Stella said Daniel is a threat—he must be eliminated!" A memory from five years ago suddenly came crashing into my mind: Stella standing right in front of me, saying, "The head of the Greenwood Clan can keep you safe. Go with him." "That old man is a pervert! Don't you know that?" I stared at this woman—whom I had mentored for ten years and been married to for three—"You're betraying me just for wealth and status?" "Charles said this is the only way out," she avoided my gaze. Charles—the man who had lived off my opera troupe! I laughed until tears streamed down my face. "You two are in this together to plot against me? I saved you from the snow, taught you how to sing opera, and this is how you repay me?" "Either leave now, or don't blame us for being ruthless," Charles burst...

A Reckoning Deferred

The gilded envelope slid across the desk toward me. The lawyer's voice was flat and emotionless: "Ms. Scott, Mr. Charles' inheritance gift agreement." I gripped my coffee spoon tight: "He's not even dead yet, and you're in such a hurry to divide his estate?" "He has late-stage pancreatic cancer. Only three months left. He just wants to see you one last time." He handed over a photo. The man in it was a gaunt shadow of his former self. Hatred surged through me. I slammed the agreement down: "Tell him I don't care about his money. And I definitely don't want to see him." My phone suddenly rang. His mother's sobs cut through the line like a knife: "Whitney, Charles is coughing up blood again! If you don't come now, you'll never see him alive again!" "See him?" I thought of that snowy night five years ago. I'd knelt before him, begging for help with Nancy clinging to life in...

The Wound That Led Me to Bliss

Five years ago, I pushed open the door to my home and saw them tangled together, their clothes in disarray. "What are you doing?" Dylan River stood up, a defiant look on his face. "Reed, Jennifer and I truly love each other." "She is my wife!" Jennifer George avoided my gaze. "Let's get a divorce. Actually, Dylan and I have been together for a year." Now, upon reuniting, she whispered softly, "Dylan and I have come to your place, hoping to see you." "Reed, there was a misunderstanding back then—" "Misunderstanding?" I pulled my hand away, my voice firm and resolute, "Threatening me with my mother's grave to force me to sign the divorce papers—is that really a misunderstanding? Ruining my life, stepping over my pain to climb higher—is that what you call a misunderstanding?" I stared at them, each word weighed with five years of concealed accusation: "You came here today to harm me again because you think I'm...

The phone screen lit up, the headline stabbing like a poisoned dagger straight into my eyes. "Rising star Grace Scott caught in photo scandal—private pictures leaked!" The photos were taken in my bedroom, my face so clear there was nowhere to hide. The makeup artist's powder puff froze mid-air, and the director's furious shout echoed from a distance. At that time, I still didn't know the person who planned all this was the one who promised to protect me forever.收起

Luna Clark slammed a five-million cheque down in front of me, her bright red nail polish glaringly vivid. "Pamela, sign the divorce papers, take the money and get out—don't dirty the Lewis Family's doorstep!" I ran my fingertips over the check and chuckled softly. "How generous of you, Ms. Clark. But do you think this money is enough to fill the hole in the Lewis Group's project?" Her face dropped instantly. "How dare you threaten me?" "Threaten is too strong a word." I pulled out my phone and waved it lightly. "I just finished chatting with Daniel. He's quite interested in your bidding reserve price." "You dare collude with that illegitimate kid!" Luna shrieked. "I'll add another ten million! Cut ties with him—now!" "Fifteen million total? Done." I pocketed my phone, my gaze turning cold. "But Ms. Clark, don't you ever wonder... what gives me the nerve to cooperate with Daniel?"收起

Thanks to My Brother-Obsessed Ex

Three days before the wedding, in the afternoon, I got a call from my girlfriend, Tina Woods. "Michael Fey, my brother Drake woke up!" she said tearfully, but then her tone shifted abruptly, "Can we... postpone the wedding? He needs me now." I gripped the schedule tightly, holding back my anger: "Everything is set. You want to postpone now?" "He's my brother!" she shouted. Then, her brother Drake Woods' weak, deliberate voice came through the phone: "Tina, don't make things hard for Michael. I shouldn't have woken up now..." Tina Woods immediately cut him off with a pang of pain, then turned coldly to me and said, "Michael, the wedding has to be postponed! If not, I'm not going to marry you! You need to come to the hospital right now and apologize to Drake!" I looked at the wedding invitations we had painstakingly prepared over half a year and felt completely crushed. This brother-obsessed drama queen... I'm done dealing...

After She Bullies Me in the Shopping Mall

The shopping mall was swarming with people; I was holding my seven-year-old daughter's hand when a stranger slapped me in public and forced me to kneel. She crushed my cell phone beneath her foot, left red marks on my child's face, and sneered that we "poor people aren't worthy to breathe." I pressed the locator my older brother gave me, swallowing my shame—all to protect Bella cradled in my arms. In a pool of blood, my husband lay barely alive, while my son clung to the attacker, calling her "baby." Today, I will no longer hide my identity as Ms. Lynn—everyone who has harmed my family will pay the price.收起
