Be a Queen, Not a Princess

2026-03-04

A few days ago, Chris whispered in my ear, "Natalie Lynn, we'll get engaged early next month, and I'll dote on you like a real princess." But in the very next second, he walked through the crowd holding a bouquet of white roses, knelt down on one knee in front of Mindy, his voice humble to the dust: "Mindy, I've waited for you for five years. Marry me." The whispers around me were like poisonous needles piercing my eardrums. I gripped the wine glass tightly, my knuckles turning white: "Chris, have you forgotten our three years of companionship? Have you forgotten the tree you planted with your own hands?" He turned to look at me, his eyes filled with no remorse at all, only impatience: "Natalie, Mindy and I are soulmates. Stop being unreasonable." Mindy leaned against him, the corners of her red lips curling into a mocking smile: "Ms. Lynn, in a relationship, the one who isn't loved is the third party. You should face the reality." I laughed out loud: "Third party? Then what about my three years of youth, and Milo whom I treated like family?" Chris frowned, his tone cold: "Want compensation? Money or shares—name your price." I stared at the way he was protecting Mindy, my heart feeling as if it was being torn apart: "Chris, you'll regret this." He let out a sneer, put his arm around Mindy and turned to leave: "I never regret making the right choice." "Do you really think you can call the shots in this game?" I watched their backs and murmured softly.收起

Chapter 1 of "Be a Queen, Not a Princess"

The glare of the crystal chandelier stung my eyes. This was Chris Lewis's birthday party, where the city's elite had gathered. I stood in the corner, holding a glass of champagne, watching as everyone's eyes implicitly accepted me as the "Mrs. Lewis" candidate — myself. For three years, he had always called me "Natalie," promising to spoil me like a princess. "Natalie, once I'm through with this busy spell, we'll get engaged." He whispered this in my ear only a few days ago. Suddenly, the music stopped, and the entire room fell silent. Chris Lewis held a bouquet of white roses and made his way through the crowd toward the terrace. There stood a woman in an off-white long dress; she was his former piano teacher, Mindy Shaw. My heart sank suddenly. "Mindy," he knelt on one knee, his voice filled with a humility I had never heard before, "I have waited five years for you. Please give me one more chance—marry me." Mindy Shaw said nothing, only lowering her gaze toward him. The whispers around me pricked my ears like needles. "So Mr. Lewis's heart has always belonged to Teacher Shaw?" "What about Natalie Lynn? Weren't they about to get engaged?" Judging by the look of it, Natalie Lynn is probably out of the running. I gripped the wine glass tightly, my knuckles whitening. Three years together couldn't outweigh his lingering attachment to his past love. I turned and walked out of the banquet hall; the driver tried to follow but I waved him off. The late-night wind carried a chill as I returned alone to the villa we once shared. The Sycamore Grove in the courtyard was planted by him, who had said he would propose to me beneath its thick, flourishing branches. Now, only bitterness remains. I called the gardener. "Cut down all these trees." My voice was chillingly calm. The worker faltered for a moment: "Ms. Lynn, these have been carefully tended by Mr. Lewis..." "Do as I say, and the payment will be doubled." The sound of the chainsaw shattered the night, and one after another, the sycamore trees crashed down. I stood by the window, watching the trees that once symbolized our promises turn into shattered branches, and a corner of my heart crumbled with them. "Woof! Woof!" The golden retriever Milo rubbed against my leg. We adopted him together three years ago, and Chris Lewis once said he would be a member of our future family. But in recent months, he seldom took Milo for walks and often forgot to feed him. I knelt down, running my hand over Milo's soft fur: "From now on, I'll be the only one to keep you company."

My phone buzzed; it was a link from my roommate to the Campus Bulletin Board: "Look, someone's painted you as a malicious ex-girlfriend." "I heard the ex-girlfriend caused a car accident out of jealousy, ended up with an amputation, and still can't let go..." Comments kept flooding in below: "That ex-girlfriend is so vicious!" "Tyler Chester, Run!" My fingers trembled as a new message popped up from an unknown number: "Florence James... you think a cripple like you could ever make a move on Tyler?" My whole body trembled as I dialed his number, my voice shaking uncontrollably: "Eddie, whose baby has a due date in September?" "What foolish thoughts are running through your mind?" His tone was hurried, tinged with evasion. "The company has been busy, so Quincy asked me to help out with this..." I sneered coldly, grabbed my coat, and stormed to his Company. As the elevator doors slid open, an overwhelming rush of glaring pink flooded the room—my most despised color, one he had promised would never stain our...

She said this wedding is nothing but a show put on for you." I clench my fists tightly, forcing down my rage. "Brian, cut the crap and stop sowing discord. Today is Fiona's and my big day." "Big day?" He scoffs, shoving the phone right in front of my eyes. "See for yourself. She promised me she'd dump you the second the ceremony ends. All the happiness you thought you had is just a trap we carefully laid out." I stare at the malice in his eyes, my fingertips turning cold. "What do you want?" The Wedding Trap

On my wedding day, my assistant Howard Lincoln came alone to propose a toast. When I woke, I found myself lying in a strange room, my bathrobe in disarray, and beside me was Aurora James, the daughter of my family's biggest rival. She screamed and pushed me away, and the next moment, reporters stormed in. "Mr. Sanchez, why did you betray your fiancee Julia Sullivan on your wedding day?" The flashes nearly blinded me. Aurora James covered her face, sobbing, "He forced me—" Outside the crowd, Julia Sullivan stood there, her eyes filled with feigned pain. "Julia, let me explain—" "Gabriel Sanchez," her voice was as cold as ice, "you truly disgust me." Howard Lincoln caught her as she swayed; amid the clamoring voices, his whisper was sharp and clear. "Mr. Sanchez, did you enjoy the toast I proposed?"收起
