Back to Eighteen

2026-03-03

A splitting headache bursts through my skull. I pry my eyes open, and my gaze collides with Daniel—thirty years old, dressed immaculately in a tailored suit, standing at the doorway of our high school classroom, his stare cold enough to cut to the bone. "You're here too." He speaks first, his voice sharp with wariness. My fingers clamp white-knuckled around the edge of the desk. "What right do you have to come back? Weren't you the one who abandoned me back then, only to turn around and get engaged to the Scott Family?" He takes a long, menacing step forward. "I'm here to stop the past from repeating itself. Better that than you stubbornly walking straight into the same ruin." "Stop it?" A bitter laugh rips from my throat. "You think you even deserve to? You said you had no choice, that you were powerless. I waited for you in the pouring rain for three hours that day—where were you?" His Adam's apple bobs hard, urgency bleeding into his tone. "I owe you everything. But this time, I have to stop them." My gaze flicks sideways. The teenage Daniel is holding out a pen to the teenage me, the sight searing into my eyes like shards of glass. "It's too late," I grit out through clenched teeth.收起

Chapter 1 of "Back to Eighteen"

In that moment when my headache threatened to split my skull, I suddenly opened my eyes. Bright sunlight poured through the window, landing on the yellowed desk, where crooked handwriting was carved. I raised my hand to touch my face; the skin felt smooth and firm, nothing like the wrinkle-lined skin of someone in their thirties. "Eva Lynn, what are you daydreaming about? The college entrance exam is only six months away." A familiar yet youthful voice sounded beside me. I turned around stiffly. My eighteen-year-old self was sitting right beside me, wearing a blue-and-white school uniform, a face full of adolescent awkwardness and hope. This is the classroom for the study class, and somehow I've gone back to when I was eighteen. "Who are you?" Eva looked at me warily, her eyes full of suspicion. I took a deep breath, holding back the storm inside me. "I'm you — you ten years from now." Eva laughed, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "You're lying. Nobody can travel back to the past." "I'm not lying." I grabbed her hand. "I know you like Daniel Shaw. You've liked him since the first time you saw him." Eva's face instantly flushed red, and she yanked her hand away sharply. "You... how do you know?" "Because I am you." I looked into her eyes, my voice urgent, "Listen to me, don't fall for him. Things won't end well." "Why not?" Eva frowned, her face full of resistance. "Daniel Shaw is kind. He helps me with problems and encourages me to study hard." "No matter how good he seems, he can't give you the future you want." I tried to convince her, "He'll leave you eventually, and you'll end up broken and hurting." "I don't believe you." Eva stood up and stepped back, "You're just trying to drive a wedge between us. I'm not falling for it." I was about to say something else when a muffled bang came from the back door of the classroom. I turned and saw Daniel Shaw standing there, looking about thirty, dressed in a suit, his gaze sharp and cold. He obviously saw me too; his steps faltered for a moment before he walked straight toward the boy in the classroom.

At three in the morning, the nurse drew the final curtain closed. My wife, Sienna Scott, had no heartbeat. But when I got home, the diary, sealed away for twelve years, suddenly showed entirely new writing—ink still wet, as if just written. "Randal Xavier, I am you at eighteen." "Tomorrow, I'm going to confess to Sienna Scott. Did you marry her?" My hand shook violently as I grabbed a pen and wrote beneath: "Don't confess." "Why?" A new line appeared almost immediately, the handwriting agitated. My throat tightens; I can't find the reason. I can only keep writing, "Don't confess... don't let her meet me..."收起

Lucy blocked my way. "Lisa, stop putting on an act. Dylan trusts me." I clenched the pregnancy test slip tight in my hand. "This cheap trick won't fool him for long. Sooner or later, he'll find out you're not pregnant at all." "And what if he does?" She stepped closer, pressing in on me. "You're not in his eyes anymore. Your company, your place—they're all mine now." Dylan's footsteps echoed near. I opened my mouth to speak, but he was already shielding Lucy behind him. "Lisa, leave her alone." "Leave her alone?" I snapped, my voice sharp with urgency. "She forged the papers to lie to you! Open your eyes and see the truth!" He glanced at the slip, then let out a cold scoff. "Enough. Stop pulling these stunts just to get my attention." Lucy leaned against his shoulder, raising an eyebrow at me in defiance. I reached out to grab him, only to be shoved hard by her....

My name is Mike. I'm a top student at No. 3 Senior High School, but due to my poor family background, I'm often bullied by Leo, a rich second-generation kid. "Mike, pass me the answers to the multiple-choice questions!"During the midterm exam, Leo threw me a note with this line written on it. I shook my head to refuse, which had planted the seed of resentment in his heart. "Mike, you're just a nobody with no parents!" When he, along with his followers, kicked over the recyclables that my grandpa had worked so hard to collect, I was so angry that my whole body trembled. Yet I could only watch helplessly as my grandpa was hit by them. I tried to seek justice from his father, Mr. Clark, but Mr. Clark said:"Justice? There's no such thing as justice in this world. I am justice!" But I refused to accept this. Taking my adoptive father's honor medal, I found Mr. Carter...

My Vicious Fiance, Her Ungrateful Son

My fingers went cold as I clutched the diagnosis that my future mother-in-law had late-stage gastric cancer. I remembered there was still 180,000 of betrothal gift money in my bank account, so I planned to transfer it to the hospital for her medical bills. But the glaring "0" on the account balance sent a chill down my spine. "Cindy, I withdrew the money from your account." "Nina and I are going abroad for a trip, and this money is perfect for our travel fund," said my boyfriend Victor. "Your mom is dying!" I screamed, tears splattering on the screen. "She needs hundreds of thousands to save her life!" There was a two-second silence on the other end of the line, followed by an impatient sneer. "Treating her is a waste of money—it won't help anyway. The trip can't be canceled; we can't delay it for her." "That's your mother!" "She has savings, and I'm not her only son. What's it...

The Milk Trap

I stared at the warm milk, droplets rolling down one by one. "Sergio, a glass of milk before bed helps you sleep." Sylvia Hamilton's voice was as sweet as honey. I didn't move. That gentleness—I've watched it for three years, and feared it for three years. "Why won't you drink it?" She moved closer, her breath nearly brushing the back of my ear. "I'm not thirsty." She lifted the cup, bringing it to my lips: "Just drink a little, I specially heated it for you." I turned away, locking eyes with her. Beneath the light, that beautiful face concealed something in its depths. "What did you put in this glass of milk again?" I asked. Her smile froze for a moment. "What are you talking about?" "The fiftieth time, Sylvia." My voice was low. "You think I'll never find out, don't you?"收起

Outside the window was the new car Edward Silva just sent, and on my phone, a secret photo of him kissing another woman. "Yvonne, aren't you gonna take a look?" My assistant asked cautiously. I shut off the screen, sneering coldly, "Look at what? See how much money he plans to throw at me this time to keep me quiet?" The door suddenly burst open, Edward Silva storming in with the night's chill in tow. "Yvonne, this time it's different," he said, voice low and laced with his usual coaxing, "Lillian Sullivan is pregnant with my child." The cigarette at my fingertips hung frozen in midair. He stepped closer, his breath hot against my ear, "Help me one last time. Handle it clean, like before." I slowly exhaled smoke and smiled.收起

The Burning Vengeance Behind the Ivory Keys

"Shirley's charity concert—go turn the sheet music for her." I lifted these hands that could no longer play the piano and smiled: "Alright." Under the spotlight, his first love, Shirley Fisher, struck a wrong note. Then she maliciously invited me to join her in playing: "Wendy Martinez is the true musical prodigy." My fingers pressed against the piano keys, shooting pain through me. Shirley Fisher whispered close to my ear, her voice sweet as poison: "Your hands are truly useless; karma's a bi*ch, isn't it?" I turned my head toward Troy Johnson, waiting impatiently in the audience with his face darkening, and shouted: "I won't play." "It was these two who ruined my hands themselves."收起
