A Mother's Obsession

2026-03-04

When the doctor handed me the diagnosis, my hands trembled so much I could barely hold the paper—"antisocial personality disorder." I gazed into Danny's innocent yet empty eyes, unable to fathom how the child who once nestled in my arms, full of affection, had become the "patient posing potential harm to society" the doctor described. It wasn't until the psychiatric hospital called that I realized the truly terrifying thing wasn't his illness, but the demons lurking in the shadows who exploit vulnerable patients as mere pawns in their schemes...收起

Chapter 1 of "A Mother's Obsession"

I once had a happy family. Although we were not wealthy, our life was filled with warmth. However, everything changed completely after my son Danny was diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder. Danny was different from other children from an early age. He showed very little emotional response toward those around him, lacked empathy, and often engaged in acts that harmed small animals. My husband and I always thought he was simply mischievous and didn't pay it much mind. But once he entered elementary school, things got worse. He began fighting with classmates frequently and ignored his teachers' guidance. We took him to see countless doctors, underwent various tests, and finally received that diagnosis which struck like a bolt from the blue—antisocial personality disorder. The doctor advised us to admit Danny to a psychiatric hospital for compulsory treatment, saying it would be better for him and for society. My husband and I hesitated for a long time, but ultimately steeled ourselves to make this decision. We thought that as long as Danny could get better, everything would be worth it. At first, I visited Danny at the psychiatric hospital every day, bringing him his favorite snacks and keeping him company. But gradually, I noticed Danny growing increasingly silent. Every time I visited, he would just sit quietly, his eyes empty and distant. When I asked him what was wrong, he only shook his head and said nothing. It was only later that I realized Danny had been targeted by some malicious individuals in the hospital. They exploited Danny's intellectual disability and antisocial personality disorder to deceive him into gambling. They told Danny that if he won, he would receive a lot of money and could buy many things he loved. Danny believed it to be true and began gambling frequently. At first, Danny won some small amounts of money. He was very happy and felt he had found a shortcut to wealth. But gradually, he began to lose money, and his losses kept growing. Those people started pressuring him to repay the money, warning that if he didn't, they would treat him harshly. Danny was terrified. He didn't know what to do and could only borrow money repeatedly from them, hoping to recover his losses. In this way, his gambling debt snowballed bigger and bigger. When I received a call from the hospital informing me that Danny had accumulated huge gambling debts, I was completely stunned. I couldn't believe my own ears—how could my son have become like this? I hurried to the hospital, and seeing Danny so terrified and helpless, my heart broke. To help Danny pay off his debts, my husband and I had to sell our house and all our valuable possessions. Our once happy home was shattered in an instant. I thought that as long as we cleared the gambling debts, Danny could start anew—but I was wrong. Just when we thought things had calmed down, the hospital called again, saying Danny had racked up eighty million in gambling debts. Even worse, during a clash with those people, he fatally wounded a nurse and then fled. When I heard the news, it felt as though my entire world had shattered. I never could have imagined that my son would take such an irreversible path. I started searching everywhere for Danny. I went to all the places he could have been and asked everyone who knew him, but there was no sign of him. Each day, I live in pain and self-reproach. I keep asking myself why I didn't protect Danny better, why I failed to notice his problems earlier. I despise my own helplessness and negligence that have driven Danny into this desperate situation. Still, I have not given up searching for Danny. I firmly believe he is still alive, waiting somewhere for me to save him.

"Idiot, hurry up and pack!" Brian's leather shoe slammed down right next to my feet. I drooled and giggled foolishly: "Y-yes... yes..." The tiny camera hidden in my cuff was burning hot. I was Sophia, an undercover journalist infiltrating the illegal factory, disguised as Hannah, a mentally challenged woman. Late at night, a sob came from the back door of the warehouse. Brian was yanking at Lydia, the "crazy girl", sneering: "Even a lunatic has her uses!" Lydia suddenly stopped struggling, her eyes sharp and clear, terrifyingly so: "Let me go!" Brian punched her hard in the head. Blood streamed down. But she lifted a finger to point at me, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth: "Take a photo... help me take a photo!" "Take a photo? Looking for death!" Brian turned to glare at me. I immediately dropped to my knees and pretended to be deranged again. "Give it to Simon... my brother..." Her voice was as...

Kevin Lewis clamped his fingers around my chin, his breath reeking of alcohol and sarcasm as he snarled in my ear: "Jennifer, a fatherless person—what makes you think you're worthy of clinging to the Lewis Family?" I struggled, gritting my teeth: "My mom begged you to take care of me on her deathbed. You can't treat me like this!" He scoffed and let go. The photos scattered all over the floor. "Your mother was a woman with a messy private life. Who even knows where you came from? Is this the 'dignity' she asked me to preserve for you?" Olivia linked her arm through his, simpering to add insult to injury: "Kevin, don't waste your time on this liar. She's only here for the money." "I'm not a liar! My mom wasn't like that!" I dropped to my knees to pick up the photos, my fingertips icy cold. Kevin kicked the photos away in disgust: "Take the money and get...

"Miss Beth, your package." I opened the envelope, and an invitation slipped out—groom Yves, bride Reese. Just then, my phone rang—it was that number I hadn't seen in three years. "Beth, did you get it?" Yves' voice was hoarse but familiar, "Don't go to the wedding." I traced the edge of the invitation. "What, are you afraid I'll cause a scene?" "I'm afraid you'll get hurt." He paused for a moment. "Do you still have that note...?" "I threw it away a long time ago." I sneered, "Just like you left me behind back then." The sound of a lighter clicked on the other end of the line. "What if I told you the car accident back then wasn't an accident?" "What do you mean?" "Reese's father threatened me with your life. I had to marry her, but I've been gathering evidence all these years." "Now they've found out." His voice suddenly tightened. "Listen, no matter what happens, don't trust...

My Brother's Asylum

2026-03-04
On Christmas Eve, I sat in the corner of the dining table, watching the man I had secretly loved for three years—my brother, Miles Fisher. We had a secret romance that lasted three years; he used to be my favorite man. "Laura," he said softly, approaching with a bowl of meat, his voice still gentle, though it churned my stomach like a storm. "You used to love eating this the most." "No need, I don't like it anymore." After saying this, I turned away and poured it out. His face darkened. "Pick it up and eat it!" It was as if I could hear the caregivers' orders echoing inside the asylum once more. I knelt beside the trash can, swallowing the dust-covered meat in humiliation. "Sorry, Miles, I was wrong. I'm sorry..." Miles Fisher's body stiffened. "Laura... what exactly did you endure in the asylum?"收起

His Live-in Chef

On David's birthday, I caught Ruby wearing my nightgown, held tightly in his arms at home. "She's just the new chef I hired," he explained casually, but he couldn't deceive me. However, thinking of how David had taken meticulous care of my mother when she was critically ill, my heart softened in the end, and I agreed to his proposal. During our honeymoon, David and I went scuba diving together. Before we descended into the sea, he held my hand tightly and said, "Don't worry. I'm here." But moments later, he let go of my hand deep in the ocean, and my oxygen tank malfunctioned suddenly. I was on the verge of drowning when my diving instructor rescued me. Then an anonymous text message exposed the whole truth: "It wasn't David who saved you. David has always loved me!" It turned out that everything—from hiring her as the chef to proposing to me—was a scheme he'd plotted to drain my...

The Last Three Months

"Tabitha, I have late-stage gastric cancer." On the other end of the telephone, Evan Scott's voice was like a broken bellows. It had been five years since he last contacted me. I stood by the window, watching his black luxury car beneath the tree and his figure, as thin as paper. "So?" My voice was as cold as ice. "Let's remarry." He coughed with heartbreaking force. "I want... to have a home in my last three months." I almost laughed out loud. "Evan Scott, on what grounds do you think I would agree?" "I'm dying soon. Just... pity me?" I watched the leaves falling outside the window as a bitter yet satisfying thought took root and ran wild in my mind. "Alright." I heard myself speak, my voice chillingly calm: "I agree."收起
