A Good Ex

2026-03-04

The bedroom was filled with labored breaths, accompanied by Yvonne's sultry question: "Ben, once you land those projects from the Scott Group, you'll marry me, won't you?" "Of course. After we've drained every bit of value from the Scott family, that fool Wendy will be worthless." My fingers went white gripping the divorce agreement as I pushed the door open; their panicked expressions were utterly ridiculous. "Sign." "You knew all along? Fine, that saves me the trouble." When news of the divorce arrived, My Dad collapsed on the spot from a heart attack. Outside the operating room, I called Ben's phone, only to be met with the cold, mechanical voice saying it was turned off. Five hours later, the doctor shook his head, and the light in my world went out completely. Exactly one year later, the secretary Vivian's voice carried a hint of hesitation: "Ms. Scott, Ben has returned to the country, overseeing the new project roadshow, which is involved with our merger and acquisition case..."

Chapter 1 of "A Good Ex"

It has been exactly one year since I divorced Ben Shawn. Throughout this year, I have held fast to one rule: a decent ex should be as good as dead. Today is my dad's death anniversary. At daybreak, the doorbell rang. When I opened the door, the delivery man held a bouquet of white roses, the petals still dusted with morning dew. "Are you Miss Wendy Scott? These are for you." I nodded and took the bouquet. Pinned to the stems was an off-white card. My fingertips traced the cold handwriting: "Give my regards to Mr. Scott." No need to wonder—I already knew who sent them. Ben Shawn, my ex-husband. I turned and went into the kitchen, lifting the trash can lid. The white roses were thrown in roughly, petals stirring up a bit of dust. I pulled the card out separately and tore it to pieces. The fragments fell onto the bouquet, eerily reminiscent of that unfinished marriage. Images from the past surfaced uncontrollably in my mind. On our wedding day, Ben Shawn wore a bespoke suit, his eyes shining with unmistakable tenderness. He held my hand and vowed before the priest to love me for a lifetime. At that moment, my dad stood beside us, smiling with clear satisfaction. He always said Ben Shawn was his proudest protégé, and that entrusting me to him was something to rest assured about. Looking back now, it's truly laughable. The betrayal came completely out of nowhere. That day, I left work early, hoping to surprise Ben Shawn. When I opened the door, I saw a pair of high heels at the entrance that weren't mine. The sounds coming from the bedroom stabbed my heart like a dull knife, cutting over and over again. I didn't storm in to confront them. I just stood quietly by the doorway until the noise stopped. When Ben came out and saw me, a flash of panic crossed his face. He tried to explain, but I raised my hand to stop him. I neither cried nor made a scene. I simply took out the divorce agreement I had long since prepared and placed it before him. At that moment, I still didn't realize how deeply this would wound my dad. When my dad learned the news, he collapsed immediately. By the time he was admitted to the hospital, the doctor said it was a sudden heart attack, and his condition was dire. In the hospital ward, my dad gripped my hand tightly, his eyes heavy with guilt. He said he had made a terrible mistake and ruined me. I swallowed my tears and told him it wasn't his fault. But I knew the weight in his heart would never lift. The office door was gently pushed open. Vivian Lincoln walked in carrying a cup of coffee and set it on my desk. She's been my secretary for years and knows everything. "Ms. Scott, are you all right?" She asked softly. I looked up at her and shook my head. "Just got word that Ben Shawn... might be coming back to the country." She hesitated before speaking. I tightened my grip on the coffee cup; my fingertips went white. "If he comes back, it's got nothing to do with me." My tone was flat, betraying no emotion. Vivian Lincoln sighed, "But Ms. Scott, this time he's back to lead a new project at headquarters and needs to do a domestic roadshow." "Our company has several collaborations with Shawn Group; we're bound to run into each other from time to time." "When that happens, will you... leave him any leeway?"

Her Second Sun

During lunch break, a hot search popped up on my phone: "Is it wrong to fall in love with someone who's already married?" I sneered, fingers scrolling, then suddenly froze— That name, Victoria Lowell, stabbed into my eyes like a poisoned knife. "Stella, you lost." Three years ago, on that rainy night, she leaned close to my ear, her breath burning, "Ryan Sterling is mine. Everything you have is mine now." I clenched my fists, nails digging into my skin. "You'll regret this." She laughed even more recklessly: "Regret? Look who's left with nothing now."收起

My Husband's Double Standard

I was kneeling on the floor wiping for the third time when Jeremy Chester called. "The disinfectant concentration at the entrance is off. Spray again." A soft, playful laugh came from the phone's background. My fingers stiffened. Half an hour later, in his car, I found a used condom and smelled a sweet perfume I'd never worn. The next day, I went to the company to confront him. When I pushed open the office door, he and his secretary, Susanna Houston, were disheveled. He snapped, "What are you doing?! Who told you to come in without sterile clothes?!" I tossed the used condom right in front of him. He frowned instantly, backing away: "Get that disgusting thing away from me!" "Disgusting?" I smirked, "Weren't you the one using it?"收起

It was the fifth year after graduation; I thought I'd live my life like this. That early morning, my mobile phone suddenly lit up, and a message pierced my eyes like a sharp blade—it was Yvonne Jones, my ex-girlfriend whom I had long blocked but who always found ways to contact me. At the welcome banquet, I was holding my daughter Ann's hand as I pushed open the door, and immediately heard Mr. Green's secretary say in a sweet, delicate voice, "That time with the drugging, it was all thanks to Mr. Green." Five-year-old Ann looked up and asked, "Mom, what does drugging mean?" Laughter erupted around the table. My fingertips went numb as I gritted my teeth and shoved the divorce agreement into my bag. Finn Green reached out to hug Ann, but I took a half step back and quietly told her, "From now on, call him 'Mr. Green.'" In that moment, I knew this marriage was nothing but ashes, and I would walk out of the fire carrying my daughter with me.收起

On the grand opening day of my restaurant, my best female friend and fiancé handed me a "consultation fee" bill for 500,000. I smiled and accepted it, then handed back a dining bill for 1,280,000. New Life at Sixty

The sun on my 60th birthday scorched the back of my neck, yet the cancer diagnosis in my hand felt icy enough to pierce my bones. I slapped the diagnosis onto the dining table and stared at Robert, who was rubbing his mahjong tiles across from me. "I have cancer—late stage," I said. He didn't even look up, his tone irritable. "How much will treatment cost? We can't touch the money for the kids' down payment on a house." My chest tightened, and my voice trembled. "The doctor said treatment is pointless. All I ask is a decent urn for my ashes after I'm gone." He finally lifted his head, his eyes filled with calculation. "Urns are expensive too. Let's split it—Going Dutch. I'll pay half." "Robert!" I slammed my palm on the table, forty years of grievances erupting in an instant. "We've shared a bed for forty years, and I don't even deserve a whole urn?" He frowned in...
