Reborn to be a Cat

"Stella Scott, don't blame me." The moment the coffee touched my lips, Luna Collins' smile was like a poisoned blade. A burst of searing pain exploded, the world spun, and I heard my heartbeat suddenly stop. When I opened my eyes again, the cold white light had turned into a towering forest, and when I raised my paw—it was soft pink pads. Ryan Carter, the academic underachiever, picked me up with a grin, "Kitten, from now on, stick with me." I, once the goddess of scientific research, now reborn as a cat, begin my journey of revenge and tutoring advanced math all at once.收起

Chapter 1 of "Reborn to be a Cat"

My last clear memory was frozen beneath the cold white fluorescent light in the university laboratory. The air carried the freshly brewed, slightly burnt scent of coffee. My best friend Luna Collins held a ceramic cup, her smile sweet as if glazed in honey. "Stella, you've been up all night, haven't you? Drink some coffee to keep awake. If you can finish this research report before the deadline, you'll definitely take first prize." I was so exhausted my eyes could barely stay open. Without thinking much, I took the cup and downed a big gulp. The bitter liquid slid down my throat, carrying a strange metallic aftertaste. I was just about to ask Luna Collins if she had put something in the coffee when a sharp pain erupted from my core, like countless tiny knives stabbing fiercely. My vision began to blur, and the only thing I could hear was Luna Collins' suppressed, triumphant laughter. "Stella Scott, don't blame me. If anyone's to blame, blame yourself for being too exceptional. Your research findings? It's only fitting that I use them instead of you." That was the last sentence I heard before losing consciousness. When I opened my eyes again, the familiar lab bench was gone, and everything around me had become enormous. Every grain on the dark brown wooden floor looked like a deep ravine, just a few centimeters from me. The leg of the sofa beside me was as thick as a small tree. I reached out to touch it, but saw only a furry white paw raised up. The paw was small and delicate, with pale pink pads, and the nails weren't fully grown yet, showing a soft white. I froze, then tried moving my other 'hand'—it was the same white paw. Panic grabbed me instantly. I looked down at my body—it was covered in soft, fluffy white fur. A thin, furry tail dragged behind me. That's when I realized I had turned into a cat. "Mom! There's a kitten here!" A clear, youthful voice suddenly rang out from above, filled with surprise. I looked up into the light and saw a boy wearing a blue-and-white school uniform. He wasn't very tall; his bangs were a little messy, and the collar buttons of his uniform were undone, revealing a patch of pale neck. He slowly crouched down, his eyes sparkling as he stared at me, like he'd found a treasure. Later, I learned that this boy was named Ryan Carter, a notorious academic underachiever at City No.1 High School. He always ranked near the bottom in every exam, and the teachers would helplessly shake their heads whenever they mentioned him. Ryan moved very gently, carefully reaching out his hand, his palm warm as he softly cradled my body. Every hair on my body stood on end. I wanted to struggle and shout, 'I'm not a cat,' but all that came out was a soft 'meow.' "Such a tiny little thing—I'll just call you Ginger." He gently rubbed my ear with his fingertip, his touch so tender it instantly made me lower my guard a bit. I flicked my tail, still feeling ridiculous—just yesterday, I was a physics professor about to win a major research award, and today I'd become a kitten picked up by an academic underachiever.

"Debra Salazar, send this to Carol." Siegfried Mussolini placed a black card in front of me, his tone exactly the same as when he made me sign away the company years ago. "Go by yourself." He gripped my chin, forcing me to look at him. "Do you want to defy me?" I pulled away from his hand, took a champagne-colored velvet box from my bag, and pushed it toward him. He opened it; inside was a full box of condoms. "Mr. Mussolini," my voice cold as ice, "next time don't make me sign your lover's abortion consent form. It's a dirty job." "What do you mean?"收起

The Man She Brought Home

The phone screen lit up—it was a photo from Clara: a stranger lying on our bed, wearing those sexy shorts she gave me. My fingers shook as I dialed, "Clara, what the hell do you think you're doing?" "His name's Cole." Her voice was frighteningly calm, "He's going to live here from now on." "Our home—and you're letting some random guy live here?" I was practically yelling. "He's hurt, needs me to take care of him." "What about me?" I gripped the phone tight, "What the hell do you think I am?" There was a pause on the other end of the line before her cold voice came through: "Heinrich, if you so much as touch him—" "What?" I heard her take a deep breath, each word slow and deliberate: "I'll make you disappear forever."

The Jump Rope

That day, I stood at the school gate holding a strawberry-flavored lollipop for my daughter, waiting for her to finish school. My phone buzzed—the Parent Committee was discussing a 180 dollars jump rope relay. I said, "We have one at home," and got kicked out of the group chat with a red notification. Three minutes later, the homeroom teacher called: "If you don't buy it, your child will have to leave school. That's the principal's wife's decision." My hands trembled so much I could barely hold the phone—but little did I realize, this jump rope was just the first thread ripped from the fabric of our lives.收起

The loud slam of the iron door behind me was the full stop to my ten years of wrongful imprisonment. Until the night before my release, I heard that familiar voice outside the duty room— "She'll be out tomorrow; the reporters and 'victims' have all been arranged." It was Zane Williams's lawyer. "Ten years have passed. Is she still as foolish as before, believing you loved her?" "Was setting this trap worth it, just for Amelia Sullivan?" Zane Williams chuckled lightly, "She made Amelia suffer. These ten years were what she deserved." Blood thundered in my ears. Ten years of hell—it was all a carefully crafted revenge by him for another woman.收起

I stepped out of prison; the sunlight burned fiercely. "Get in the car," he said, his voice devoid of warmth, "the doctor is waiting for you at the manor." I did not move, staring at my hands that could no longer form a fist. "Your hands must recover as quickly as possible," he stared at me, enunciating each word, "In one month, Jinny's heart surgery must be performed by you as the lead surgeon." "Why choose me?" I looked up, meeting his cold gaze. "Aren't you afraid I'll kill her on the operating table?" Cameron Lincoln smiled—a smile filled only with ruthless certainty. "Because," he leaned in, his voice low and controlled, "three days ago, I sent someone to 'retrieve' your parents' bodies from the cemetery."收起
